The time came to face the facts.

Well, to face the eye chart, anyway.

I saw an opthalmologist today, because I've become nearsighted, over time. Not badly, but enough that it makes it difficult to read very distant signs, or see the stars well. So he tested my vision, and gave me a prescription. I'll go to an eyeglass shop tomorrow to get the glasses. I'm curious to see how much the glasses, and the increased visual clarity they'll bring, will effect my general everyday experiences.

To be continued...

After a few weeks, you'll notice the difference..I was nearsighted when I was a child. I wore glasses for two years. Then my little brother (god bless his soul) stepped on the things. I went to the eyedoctors. My vision has been 20-10 since then. I lucked out. I hope they work out well for you. :D

I think I might need glasses soon also. Probably from staying up at night and reading and the computer screen is what blames it on. I think she is wrong! My beatiful bringers-of-fun would never do that to me... At least I hope not.

Yes it is, but if you want your left eye to get a little stronger then cover your right eye for a while everyday and only use your left eye to see, but don't do it to long, this does put a strain on the eye your using.

My mom is very nearsighted, and my dad is very farsighted. I figure this means I'll either have great vision all my life, or I'll be blind after another 10 years.

Heheh. Almost the same here. I'm slightly nearsighted. I don't need glasses to drive, or do anything except read distant signs or make out leaves on trees. I also went to get an Eye exam (Monday though) because I wanted to fix what problem was there. One thing I've noticed is that I've become slightly less observant due to things being blurry in the distance. It's like you have your own personal "fog of war" thing going on. But anyway, I want to fix that, so I'm going to get glasses again too .

I have. I'm Left-Handed, so I hold the rifle in my right hand, pull the trigger with my left, and look through the sights. (well, scope if I'm using a sissy rifle. I mean, where's the sport in that?)

I use my left side for just about everything. There's one notable exception though. If I'm kicking someone in the ass, I generally use my right foot.

Oh, it turns out it'll take a few days for the glasses to be made, so I'll pick them up on monday. I didn't realize it takes that long.
In choosing between the frames, I felt sort of like I was trading off between convenience (i.e. larger rounder glasses that gave a wider view) and asthetics (i.e. narrower glasses that look less like goggles). In the end I found a frame I was pretty satisfied with, though.

I asked the opthalmologist about whether staring at the computer screen a lot could have contributed. He said he doubts that was a factor.

She may have a point. When she was little, one of my sisters had to cover one eye sometimes because it was getting far too dominant. It worked— she now has good vision in both eyes.

That's what I've heard.

Start at about 15 minutes or so a day for the first few days and increase that time if you want to, you could make your own pirate like patch or use a bandana and you could do it while on the internet, you could even just close one eye for that time or just whenever you felt it necessary for more exercise for the eye muscles, this is usually to correct lazy eye but it seems if you did this for a while it would make your brain react with this eye more than before, just don't do it to long, might get a headache if you overdo it.

Impressions so far:

Pros: Wow, I'd forgotten how detailed distant things can look. Looking down a busy street right after I walked out of the glasses shop, I was reminded of "Where's Waldo" pictures, because it seemed like there were so many tiny (but clear) detailed things going on everywhere. (e.g. Several blocks away a man is boarding a bus while a woman further down the block is rumaging through her pursefor a quarter to put in a payphone while two floors up a man next to a potted plant is typing while on the sidewalk across the street a pigeon is pecking at a scrap etc.) It's much easier to read the writing on blackboards and whiteboards, and see the text in overhead projections.

Cons: Things seem some smaller, because the glasse's lenses are concave. Whin I got lunch after getting the glasses, for a moment I wasn't sure I had taken a large cup of soda as I intended to, because the cup's size seemed halfway between a medium and a large. Another problem is that since the lenses change the focal length of my vision, while farawaythings appear to be where the should be, nearby objects look a bit closer than they truly are. This includes the sidewalks upon which It tread, so as walk I keep getting the odd impression that my steps are landing a few inches below the pavement. Also, in class today, I got a little dizzy because of the way the room seemed to shift slightly every time I glanced down at my notes after looking at the blackboard, or vice versa. (On the other hand the dizzyness could just be the result of sleep deprivation, because I'm dizzy right now without wearing the glasses.)

Really nice pro: I can see lots (well for NYC, anyway) of stars at night again! I can't wait to look at the night sky in the country through my glasse, away from the light pollution of the city.

P.S. I wrote nearly the same post last night, but my browser crashed immediately after I clicked "Continue", so I didn't have the patience, then, to rewrite it. (Something that really pissed me off is that just in case anything should go wrong, I pressed Ctrl-a and Ctrl-c to copy the post to the clipboard, but when I checked the clipboard it turned out it was for nought, because the clipboard data apparently became corrupted during the crash. )

/me copies this post to notepad, and saves the file, just in case.
...
Okay, now I'll click "continue". =P

*Sigh*, I really need to buy a digital camera so I can snap a picture whenever I feel like it, with no film to buy and no developing time. =P
