I never use I.E., using Firefox in its place. Also, I never install illegal software cracks or dodgy software. So... do I really need Spy Sweeper or Search & Destroy etc.?

Nice sig, Bill Cosby rocks.... Anyways you definately don't need as much or need to scan but every once in a while but I'd still have them on hand... Windows is so full of holes adware freaks may find a way to get em' through anyway.

Not sure about spyware protection, but you definitely need anti-virus software. I would recommend AVG Free Edition. Real-time protection, e-mail scanner, and free updates. Its what I use.

AVG Free is pretty good. Although the new one that has one annoying feature... Whenever I come back from standby, it opens up the update manager right away. Is there a way to NOT have it automatically do this? I kept up to date with the older one just fine on my own.

i STILL have to clean out spyware every now and then even with using firefox. i would recommend having SpywareBlaster and SpyBot installed for active protection, and then having adaware on hand for regular scans every few months.

Ya I would keep the spyware protection, but I never use anti-virus software, just do a random scan at housecall.antivirus.com once in a while.

I use AVG as well. It's really worth getting the full edition, if not only to support Grisoft.

Yeah, same here.. I keep Ad-Aware installed, but none of that crap runs memory-resident. I just run it for fun every now and then.

All it ever finds is cookies anyway, eh. :)

No, I didn't get much spyware when I used IE and I never get it now. I keep it around just incase but I really don'r need it, nor would I pay for it.

Dude, you fucking need a resident anti-virus for XP if you use high-speed.... AVG is free, great, and takes very little system memory.... Don't be reckless.

imo it really depends on your knowledge/familiarity with windows/internet, if you know what you're doing and aren't an idiot you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I am on my computer fairly constantly(all the time, lol) and over the last 3 years I haven't got a single virus, and most my time is browsing/dling stuff.

Get AVG it's freeware for virus.
Spybot rocks and will get rid of most of the adware bullshit.

I'm very knowledgable, yet I found that I had a java virus of some sort, can't remember what it was...I have NO idea where it came from, but my AV software detected it and I disinfected my machine.
