i special ordered a book from borders...it arrived today. finished it in about 2 hours.

"in the gravest extreme" from massad ayoob....$10.

this should be REQUIRED reading for anyone who owns a handgun or carries.

i forgot how fast i read....i remember blowing through star trek: tng novels like 4" thick in a day. i'll never forget the novel where there's like 3 timelines going...Q is involved...i forget what it's called. we went to key west florida that year...instead of going on the beach, i stayed in the air conditioned hotel and read the entire book. imho, it was better than seeing the homos on the street and dealing with 110 degree heat in the shade.

anyhoo, if you own or plan to own, GET THAT BOOK.

One of the best ST novels written. Also up there are Dark Mirror and Federation.

I always do that with scifi, The Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Asimov in 2 days, Ender War in 3, had to savor that one, incredible story, and finally So You Want to be a Wizard/Deep Magic/High Magic trilogy in 5 days, very intensive reading and concepts, very cool book also. Reading rulez.

The only books I read anymore are the Left Behind series...ironic cuz I'm not christian anymore, but I like the story. Anyways, the minute I get one, I get home, read it in a bout 2-3 hours, and have to wait like 8 months for the next one to come out.

I can read very fast when I want to. I don't do that when I'm reading something I enjoy, however. To me, at least, that would feel like watching a movie I liked at 2x speed. =P

it's just like when i'm using a computer...when i'm involved in something, i type faster, browse faster, read faster....i guess when i enjoy a book and am involved in it i absorb info quicker.

High magic is when her sister Darene finds her wizards book and takes the oath and then is sent on her initiation which is to fight the evil one across the universe with her new computer wizard book *its a computer that disappears and reappears as needed*, and she ... whoops, I won't tell, you might find the book if you haven't read it yet.

I play all of my videogames at 70Hz, 60Hz was just too slow for me. And the graphics are even smoother now.

Considering that I was a literature major in college (and considering that I am almost always holding a book), you'd think that I'd be at least a fairly fast reader. I guess I'm faster than the "average" reader, but read only around 250 words a minute (at most). I've read 400 page books overnight before, but typically don't get enough time to do so.

I've been reading Isaac Asimov's 3rd autobiography for almost 2 weeks now and am almost finished with it. The best real autobiography ever. The best fake one being David Copperfield.

I get in the habbit of slowing down to much when I read. It's kind of like when you see the sunset against the backdrop of a calm lake and you have no choice but to stop and simply enjoy the moment . . . Oops. Starting to sound girlish. Anyway, you know what I mean.

I assume you mean I, Asimov? It's an interesting read (I read it years ago), but a careful reader will notice that it definitely glosses over some periods and events, and the role of his behavior in shaping those. For example, I think I remember having the impression that there were significant holes in the narative, regarding his first first marriage and his relationship with his son. Of course, I could be remembering incorrectly, since it has been a while since I read it.

Well, kind of . . . His first two autobiographies were intended to cover the events of his life in detail. The third was supposed to express how he felt about the things that had taken place in his life. He apparently wrote more on the topics things that meant more to him . . . Otherwise, the autobiography would have been even longer than the nearly 600 pages it is anyway.
