View Full Version : Blurry Emulation!

Well, I opened an NES ROM on my new computer for the first time... and it was blurry! I used both FCE Ultra and NESTen, same thing. FCE Ultra has some interesting scaling techniques that sharpened the image, but they also awkwardly rounded the pixels out and I much prefer enlarged pixels. As for the blurriness, it's almost as if I did a "smart scale" in PSP7 instead of a bipixel resample (which is what I would use for scaling an NES screenshot).
I'm using Windows XP Professional, Pentium 4 3.4 ghz, gig of RAM, 250 GB HD and the monitor is a Dell Ultrasharp 17'' LCD (sharpest at it's native resolution of 1280x1024).
Also, when playing SMB1 it seems like the side-scrolling isn't quite smooth enough. Thanks for the help!

Well...with FCEUltra play with the video settings...disabling hardware accelration should fix that, as what is probably happening is your video hardware is stretching the picture but is anti-aliasing it at the same time.
Also, have you tried enabling Vsync (for the scrolling problem)?

Some video cards has an interpolation option for fullscreen mode that usually looks like shit. Try messing with your display settings -- not sure about XP... but to get there on 2k: Right Click on desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advanced. Somewhere in with the DirectX shite there might be some interpolation options. Try messing with them or turning them all off and see what's what.

Welcome to Windows XP. Use DirectX/OpenGL, rather than the 2d default engine, and it should look a lot better.
