Apparently my laptop has to go in for servicing -again-. I was using it, when suddenly the screen crapped out, becoming all white with random corrupt beige stripes down the front. When I tried to reboot it, the screen would just stay blank, though the backlight would come on. I tried a couple more times, then it finally tried to boot into Windows, but after a moment it crashed with green and blue stripes down the screen. I tried a couple more times, no love, so I called up the tech support folks. The guy I talked to was extremely helpful, and essentially told me that it probably has an internal short, so it'll have to come in for servicing. On the bright side, he was quite amenable to my vehement requests that under no circumstances whatsoever should the hard drive be reformatted. They were good about that the last time it went in for servicing, and since this seems to be a hardware problem and not a software problem, they'll take care of it as such again.
On the downside, that laptop has the last remaining copies of all of my MP3s and coding projects that I've worked on in the past two and a half years. On the upside, I'm going up to Ohio to visit a friend for a week from the 26th to the 1st, so if we send the laptop out tomorrow, it'll probably get back home before I do. <img src=smilies/thumb.gif>
