Well, transmitting the 2-d game-design of the NES version would be pretty damned hard to re-created in 3-D..... I dunno but theres a big chance it would suck ass. *cough*castlevania64*cough*

That's unfair when 99% of N64 games sucked ass. PS2, XBox, and GameCube are all worlds better, and hell, if they can do what they've done for the Metroid series on the Cube, they can do it for Bionic Commando too...why the hell not?

You have clearly not played any N64 games if you can make that statement. I can name off at least fifteen excellent N64 games, and quite frankly it's wholly unreasonable to own any more games than that for a console.

Never actually played it, but it's probably about as good as OoT.
> 04 Banjo Kazooie
Agreed.
> 05 Banjo Tooie
Only played a bit of it. Didn't seem quite as good as Banjo-Kazooie, but still good.
> 06 DK 64
Heard mixed opinions on it. Emulation problems have stopped me from seriously playing it.

Again, not played.

Nope, not played.

I should play this at some point.

I've heard next to nothing about this.
> 13 Ogre Battle 64
Hmm... nope, can't remember anything.
> 14 Harvest Moon 64
I have a feeling I'll like this.
> 15 Golden Eye
Yes, yes, YES! Multiplayer fun!
> 16 Perfect Dark
Not tried this.
> 17 Pilot Wings 64
I really haven't tried many N64 games.
> 18 Mario Kart 64
I have tried this though. The multiplayer was nice, but single-player was disappointing. WAAAAAAY too easy. Double Dash was better for single player, but didn't seem so great on multiplayer. Super Circuit probably shines as the best of the series.
> 19 Conkers Bad Furday
I played this and liked it. But got fed up of glitchy, HLE N64 emulators and deleted the lot. I've since got my ROMs back, but haven't played any of them. I have other games to play until the genesis of serious N64 LLE...
> 20 Jetforce Gemini
So we end with another game I haven't played. Wasn't this by Rare? If so, I'll probably love it.
> Even if 06, 09, & 10 were let downs to the older games in

I can't believe you didn't include #18 in this listing. Mario Kart 64 was a major letdown. Nintendo could and should have done a lot better with it. Making it so the single player mode lasts longer than a day would've given it extra longevity.

I also loved:
- Mario Tennis (surprisingly good)
- Rogue Squadron
- StarFox 64
I heard good things about many other games as well, such Castlevania 64, Bomberman 64, and Mario Golf. I don't think the average game quality on the N64 was worse than average; in fact, given that most of the promotional junk went to Sony, it was probably better than average.

I forgot about these. lol I remember liking the Goemon N64 games, especially the 2nd...seemed WAY more fleshed out than the first.

It is quite a lot of fun, but really...the reason people hated it so much is that compared to Yoshi's Island, it really not very good.
> 20 Jetforce Gemini
I personally feel this game to be way underrated by most people. I had a great time with it, esepcially the crazy stuff like the insanely hard Floyd shooting levels (well, hard to get the best award on anyway). Reminded me of fond memories of BlastCorps. <img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif>

I like to think of these two games like this:
Goldeneye is like eating ice cream for the first time. It's a wonderful thing like no other.
Perfect Dark is like having sex for the first time. It reminds you of ice cream, but also makes you think, "wow, this is so much better"

I had this game for about two weeks and thought, "wow, the person who made this is on some sort of drug." I never really got into it. It seemed more difficult than the average 64 game.

Yeah, speed. You have to be doped up on quite a few mugs of coffee before you stand a chance of beating the last boss.

Dude, I have played many N64 games, and like you, do like quite a few of them. I've probably played about 50 or so, and like 7 or 8 of them. There are however a great mass of N64 games that I did not play because for the most part, I could tell that they were just not that great. I mean for one thing, N64 had about 18752684726381 racing games and, well, I don't like a whole lot of racing games (I did like the Extreme-G series...reminded me of MegaRace on the PC). I mean it had Nintendo syndrome...on regular Nintendo, for every game you play and like, there's 10 you play and don't like, and 100 you wind up never playing. It seemed likewise on the N64 to me, except there was less games. Nintendo was that way because it had about 50 million games.

Dude I was an n64 fanboy back in the day. I never owned a playstation until the PS2 came out. There were plenty of great games for n64. PSX had more games, but 75 percent of the releases were total shit, PSX also had way shittier graphics and load times.
Doom 64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario Kart, Star Fox 64,Paper Mario, Ridge Racer 64, Resident Evil 2...... There were lots of cool games.

wow...I'm impressed that they could actually come up with 25 titles on the N64 that were "TOP"....IMHO, N64 sucked ass....and there were only a handful of really good games.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time I loved. It was the first 3D platformer/adventure I'd had ever played - the Lost Woods temple actually scared me because it was all so new to me lol. In retrospect though, I think Link to the Past is a better game, but the nostaliga factor probably plays a lot into that.
Golden Eye I quite liked. I never got to play it with 4 playes though.
Starfox 64 (Lylat Wars it's called over here) was quite amazing - utter doddle to complete but it was fun throughout.
F-Zero X is absolute favourite though. I didn't rate the SNES one and I've barely touched the GBA one I have, but the N64 one I adored. I've just bought the GC version and I'm totally hooked on it.

It's one of the ugliest consoles out there too, and the joypad was quite terrible - large, clunky and the analogue stick didn't feel "right", you know? The PSX one felt smooth, but the N64 one, no. I did like the idea of the trigger handle though but it's a shame, if a game ever needed it, that you would have to move your hand to access the directional pad.

How did you hold a controller? Do you have small hands? I held it by the "Wings" and could still touch the trigger and all the buttons with relative ease.

My hands are pretty large. I could reach the analogue stick from holding the wings but it wasn't comfortable and I can't imaging the Z button being accessable like that. I suppose no games that used the dpad required the Z button though. I still like the middle prong of the N64, though. You could hold it in one hand and it would feel balanced.
