Most of the intelligent posters on that site surmised that the advice contained in "Duck and Cover" is actually quite useful if you aren't in the main blast and radiation radius. If you're actually out of that main radius, and on the outskirts, something as simple as newspaper might save your life. If anything, dropping to the ground and wrapping my arms around my head sounds a lot better than standing there and just dying. If it gives me a 0.01% better chance of living, then dammit, I'm going to do it.
Another 50s reminder of the world we live in, and the genie we unleashed with the atomic bomb. We spend so much time finding ways to kill people so fast, they don't even know what happened. Dreams, lives, stories untold, with desires, wishes unfulfilled, all gone in a flash. All for artificial, human created things, like politics.
