I fear... I have lost my mind. The burbling, clicking chatter consumes me and envelopes my sense. I cannot escape; they summon me even now.
My final wits allow me these memoirs, which I write with a grim hope... a hope that others can avoid this fate, this destiny of...

<CENTER><FONT FACE=Courier New>Chapter 1</FONT></CENTER>
It is not a mortal's nature to comprehend the whims of Chaos. Its swirls and ebbs do not fall in line with fathomable rhyme or theory. Its chieftains --- Nagaroth, Ch'guuran, Belthazed, others --- know no time or sorrow. Their names, even, are strange, indecipherable. If only we knew of what machinations and dire tricks they pull behind the curtain of reality. Perhaps it is best that most of us do not.
Most of us.
I shudder to think of that ashen Wednesday.
The skies sunk dangerously low, bearing a thick hide of grey. Solitary streets filled with dead air, something felt wrong. Upon reflection, it seems all too obvious: on that 14th of August, I would cross paths with the Ancient Ones.
Swiftly yet cautiously, I drove to the patent office and put in a usual day's work. I returned home with equal expedience and care, hung up my coat and hat, sat down for a small cup of tea, and prepared to read the evening posts. As I relaxed and glanced over the latest news, a particular heading caught my eye; I examined the article more closely. A sight of unspeakable horror greeted me.

O, the swirling maddness of those symbols! They drilled and shattered my skull, clicked and clanked, made mayhem of my mind... but drew me ever so closer, and slowly took form.
"Forged beyond time, beyond hope, an artefact of chaos everlasting, lost forever to the mortal realm. Take heed, for this is the Tome of Eternal Darkness and your chapter...
is about to begin."
