Don't you remember those posters in school that used to say, "Be Original" with a picture of one colorful object contrasted with uniformity? I was wondering today whether or not communist nations did the opposite ;)

Nice picture, but do you even know the definition of communism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communism)?

lol, that was quality. made even better by the slow top-down loading that started as what i thought to be, exactly as you remembered, one of those sappy school messages. but when it was finally unvailed.. priceless <img src=smilies/thumb.gif>

Definitions aren't always true to reality.

I think Socialism will be the society to replace capitalism just as capitalism replaced the monarchy. When Russia tried it the humanity wasn't mature enough to apply it properly.

Then the reality is that the governing bodies that you are in protest of aren't employing communism, although they may claim to.

Capitalism is an economic system and monarchy is a governmental system. It would be more accurate to say that representative democracy replaced the monarchy and capitalism replaced feudalism. It would still be a bit ethnocentric (democracy is only common in the Western world), but not entirely inaccurate.

As for whether socialism will eventually replace capitalism, I'd have to say that I'm really skeptical. It will generally be easier for a capitalist system to gain wealth and power than a socialist one, so there would have to be something to tip the scales in the other direction (like massive revolution).

As a side note, do you know when Scotland actually abolished the feudal system? Last Sunday.

Bloody unbelievable.

Even the utopian society in communism's "goal" includes the destruction of the individual and the promotion of a forced "equality".

The equality is intended to be class and property based. You make it sound as if that is all that an individual is worth.

I hate to agree with Danoz, but I believe that almost no one believed in "individualism" as we see enshrined today back when Karl Marx made his writings. Most of the world still doesn't believe in the idea that the individual has any significance compared to the whole. The basic idea of the socialist stage communism seems to be "Is any individual contributing all he can to the system to move toward a more perfect communist state?" If not, he or she is a problem. Communists believe in equality, and when they say equality, they mean the lowest common denominator that everyone can adhere to. Expressions of individuality are seen as decadent, capitalist flaunting. Everyone must work. Work is your religion, your contributions the sum total of your life. Collectivization. Obedience to the will of "the masses". I'm not even getting into what happens when this system doesn't work out perfectly. My uncle is someone who defected from Romania. He has a few interesting stories.
