is there any way tha i could make firefox not use the windows regestry?
i want to use it on school computers and i dont have access to it, making it a bit hard to do anything useful. i dont mind compiling it if it has to be done, but so long as it doesn't use the regestry its all good.

Why not just request through the proper school officials that FireFox be installed as the default browser on their computers? If you made a good enough stand, such as citing the numerous, critical security flaws with Internet Explorer, they might just go with the idea.

Couldn't hurt to try.

Maybe it's time to "accidently" unleash some virii or worms on some of his machines then?<img src=smilies/cwm11.gif> A little destructive pursuasion never hurt anybody, except for those who it hurts, which in this case sounds like a nobody.

yeah, its just that my IT guys are swamped (2 of 'em managing 5 schools with people that hate computers and thus try to fill them with viri)
even if they do accept the idea, i'll be long gone before it gets done.

this approach does not work for me. It seems like ff is looking for %Appdata%\Mozilla folder, where the plugins are registered. I can copy this folder, but how can I make FF point at it thru another folder?

i grabbed the firefox zip file. if you installed it, it thinks the plugins are where they were installed, so the only way is to get the 1.0 zip off their ftp.
