I'm not suprised that this happened in Texas all though there are nutty parents like that everywhere.

I remember a mother of one of the students I went to school with freaked out over "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe". She said that it encourages children to get involved with witchcraft.

No, not bizzare. Ignorant.
I'm surprised she's not burning the book and refusing to pay for it. Sounds like she looked for the 'dirty' parts.

Holy shit, this guy has to be killed for the good of humanity. Read his http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/review/R16275.htmlCastlevania: Symphony of the Night review. 2 out of 10 for one of the top 10 games ever? Castlevania: Symphony of the Night? He spends half the fucking review complaining about how the game is "untraditional" and doesn't like the fact that you can explore stuff and level up. I find it frightening that someone who comes to the conclusions he came to about SotN would have enough intelligence to form basic sentences, let alone write a review like that.

I like when he says the giant smashing foot is humorous....BUT MORALLY BANKRUPT AND EEVAAAAL! :D

Young Girl...SATAN HAS CLAIMED THE SOULS OF
YOUR PARENTS!

Um, anyway, correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you...I dunno, decide you don't WANT to kill a particular person in this game? I only played a demo, and that was some time ago, so I'm not sure...boy, that'd sure be an ironic thing if that was true, looking at this review.

I actually like this guys reviews. after the initial post, I went and read through some. Although I don't agree with all of them I know what he's saying. They evolved the Castlevania gameplay for SOT in a way that had not been done. Personally, I'm all for trying a new concept, but this guy's review is attacking SOT from a historical Castlevania purists standpoint. and in that light it deserves merit. Outside of that context it makes no sense because SOT is a rad game. But i guess not everyone is into that or wants to see the transmutation of one of their favorite series.

That guy would probably really flip out if he discovered that they aren't actually black, but red. The colour of BLOOD, LOW TEMPERATURE FLAMES and OTHER EVIL THINGS.

Those quotes seemed out of line for an 11 year old, I agree with the mother on this one. Maybe in the middle schools, but 11? Come on guys.

The lines they picked weren't even that bad. Every 11 year old thinks about weird sexual stuff. (Well, every 11 year old boy anyway... but seeing as how women develop sexually sooner than guys, it seems logicals for the same to be true for 11 year old girls). Really, there's probably nothing (or very little) in that book that the girl hasn't thought of herself (in reality... most kids probably think of this WAY weirder than what would be published in a book like that).

11 years olds are well aware of sex and sexuality. That's why they start teaching sex ed at around that age (or at least they did at my old school). They can be curious, or they could just be confused. So I think any sort of decent eduation or literature which attempts to fill the blanks should be embrased. From what I know of this book (which is very little, mind you), it seems like it would qualify. I mean it's not like it's porno or anything. The article says it's a book about a young girl a little confused about sex... targetting young girls who are a little confused about sex. I don't see what the problem is.

I certainly don't think 11 year olds should be HAVING sex. But they shouldn't try to be sheltered from its existance... that's attempting the impossible. I can understand why the mother would get uncomfortable after finding the book... but I don't see why she got as pissed as she did... she needs to lighten up.

Then Catcher In The Rye needs to be tossed out of every school library also.
Honestly, when are you going to stop?
If you toss this one out, then someone makes a case to toss another out...pretty soon, Ray Bradbury will become a prophet.
Farenheit 451.
Books have no business being banned. You do that and you make the parents job even easier. They're not all that hip to what they're doing right now, though.
Mom needs to shut up and let her kid read.
Good way to discourage a child from reading.

11 == 6th grade, which is middle school.

The mother is a prude. The lines that were quoted are tame and I don't think that sexuality is anything that should be hidden from children.

That's one of problems in repressive societies. Certain information is withheld and taught to be wrong. It only serves to make a child more curious about it because it becomes taboo at that point. Many of them will act upon it because they feel it's rebellious and therefore a "cool" thing to do.

Who knows? I've seen reviews saying how such and such game was evil, and I know for a fact they were serious, so maybe he really DOES hate SOTN.

My mom thinks Dungeons and Dragons is dangerous because of some hysterical outcry in the media about it from around 20 years ago.

Not around here it isn't. 6th grade is still elementary school in Michigan, when 7th grade is middle, and 9th is Senior High.

It's a technicality. Any 6th-8th grade academic institution is supposed to be "middle school", while a 7th-9th grade school is "junior high". High school can be either 9th-12th or 10th-12th.

When I was in school (a long time ago, admittedly), I spent 1st-5th in elementary (Norfolk, England), 6th in a middle school (Los Angeles, California), 7th-9th in a junior high school (Pacoima, California) and 10th & 12th in high school (San Francisco, California).
