so my friend was up from his summer job in virginia this weekend...and since he's 21 now, he finally bought a handgun.
we had discussed it ever since high school...what we were getting...all that snazzy stuff. i guess he beat me to the draw (pun intended).
it's been a LONG time since i've fired a handgun...so it was almost new to me again. came back fairly quickly tho.
if you've never fired a HANDGUN before (i said HANDGUN...not rifle or shotgun), here's a few pointers:
1) yeah, the magazine DOES run out
2) in the movies, the bad guys always miss. that is realistic.
3) in the movies, the good guys always hit. that is completely unrealistic.
4) wow.
the sight was slightly off...but the recoil was pretty acceptable. beretta 40 cal. took me 2 magazines to find "the spot", but i did. finally got 2 bulls eyes.
and of course i pride myself on having a fast trigger finger. i unloaded a mag in about 2-3 secs (10 rounds per mag). and i did it again. the first one flew everywhere...i don't think i hit the target once...but the second time i was actually aiming and all 10 hit about 3 inches below bulls eye on center mass...so at least i still have it.
now it's my turn. i really want a glock 19c...maybe a glock 35. the 19c is 9mm and since it's the 'c' model, it has a recoil compensator (2 vents on the top) to dampen the recoil. the model 35 is 40 cal and has a longer barrel...probably easier to sight on it.
new laptop or a gun? gee..like i have to think....GUN
but anyhoo, i just have to say kudos all the the police peeps out there...it's a lot harder than it looks.

They should make wrist straps for handguns so the recoil doesn't affect your aim or wear down your grip. So far all I've ever used is a shotgun, and I have bad aim. No decent shooting ranges here, either.

that's why i want the 19c...it's like shooting a bb gun. barely any recoil and you only lose like 5% fps tops.
everybody i've talked to about it says it's easy to conceal and with the right ammo, it's damage is comparable to a 40 or 45.

How about a laptop gun?
Yah, I got the full size Glock .40. it's fun to shoot. my dad sold his glock .9 and now has two 45s. i like shooting his pistol grip shotgun too. pow!

My brother has a .308 semi-auto Winchester rifle. Fun to shoot stuff with it but shells are kinda expensive.

I never understood the fascination with guns.
Put aside the whole 'self-defense' thing (because there are other, simpler, easier, cheaper, more effective, less dangerous ways of defending yourself)
Guns have one sole purpose:
- to kill things
If you're not planing on killing things, then there's no reason for you to have a gun.
I guess there's the whole power-trip feeling you get when you have one, but (sorry if I offend anyone), that's totally neanderthal jock-ville. If you need a gun to feel whole, you're a sad person.

Some people enjoy trying to throw knives at a target...some people like to shoot arrows at a target. Hell, some people like to go paintballing. So you're saying that those people can't possibly have that kind of enjoyment out of those things because they are weapons and weapons are solely used to kill things? I didn't hear Sam say he was using someone's head as target practice. Don't dog his hobby just cuz you don't agree with it, unless you think Sam is a criminal (who knows, maybe you do).

That would be pretty cool though...someone wants to be a dumbass and try to steal your car, and you whip out a bow and arrow and let one slip through his head....then you hang him somewhere nearby with a sign stapled to his chest "Stealing cars doesn't pay" or something.

Actually, I think rubber bullets and plastic bullets can easily be lethal if fired at a person's head.

True that. One of my best friends was robbed at gunpoint once, and hey, if there was gun control, he would have STILL been robbed at gunpoint, because criminals would be the most determined to get a gun if it was illegal. Then again, there's countries around the world that represent all scenarios (high/low gun control causing high/low rates of crime). So it's debatable.

Like pepper spray.. It's on your keychain... which is 1000x more accessable during a stick-up then a gun.
Not to mention if you're being held up... you'll have to pull out your gun and turn the safety off and hope that the robber ignores all of this action. And chances are, as SOON as he sees that you have a gun (even if you don't have it pulled out), you're gonna get shot.
And don't knock karate. If someone's sticking you up at gunpoint at close range, martial arts are your best friend. All you really have to do is grab his gun. Easier said than done, I know... but knowing martial arts would be REALLY handy.
but that's only if there's just 1 person. If there's more than 1 you're fucked anyway you slice it.

All joking aside, I'm ready for stuff cuz I practice proper handling at the gun range. And guns should be respected by they're owners. It's a powerful/fearsome tool.

That's a rather extreme generalization, but I think that there's an element of truth there, with regards to people who would boast about a gun being easily concealable, for example.
I don't have a problem with people using guns at ranges (except that those ranges are really ^%#$ing loud, and therefore a pain in the neck if you happen to be living nearby), or hunting for food, or for self-protection if they live in a dangerous neighborhood. It's the people who seem to get guns mainly so they can boast about it that worry me.
