I've noticed for a while now (and this is still going on after a few reinstallations of WinXP Pro) that my Status Bar, in IE, and Windows Explorer is never open.. I have to click View> Toolbars> Status Bar every time..
Shouldn't that bar always be open?
Anyone know how to correct this? If I open it, it will stay open until I close Explorer (both IE and Win Ex), then I have to do it again. Any help is immensly appreciated.

I DO. I'm talking about Windows Explorer, AND IE. Not just the Internet Browser is doing this. And I'm not about to use Firefox to look at C:\*
Anyone else?

Yeah, I've run into that problem too....same thing with un-maximized browser windows when opening a new one. I never found a real solution to it other than making sure that every time you close the window, you have it looking the way you want, and eventually Windows gets the hint that those are the settings that you want to keep. Yeah, pain in the ass, I know.

have you tried opening up Tools>Folder Options?
get the window exactly as you like it, go to the View tab, and select Apply to All Folders. hopefully that'll work for you.

Turn on the status bar, hold down Alt and close the window
or
Apply this registry hack, [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam\Bags\2\Shell]
"Status"=dword:FFFFFFFF
or
Get SP2 (it fixes this problem)

I'd rather not install a Legal Virus in my PC yet (SP2) but the 'hold ALT' thing worked.
Thanks dude. <img src=smilies/thumb.gif>
