Currently, my system is setup with A DVD drive, a CD-RW drive, and two HDs. I'm finding that I'm running out of space again, so I'm looking to buy a third HD, but my question is, is there a way to put this third drive into my system, without having to remove the DVD or CD-RW drive? I'm noticing that I have an SATA connector open, so could I buy an SATA drive and have that run beside my four IDE drives?

Thanks for any help you can give.

As long as you don't try to set up a RAID or something, you should be able to add an HD inot that SATA connecter just fine. You could also go buy an IDE expansion card if you wanted to use an IDE drive.

Not too sure what a SATA is but I bought myself a PCI IDE card that gives me 4 more IDE slots, so I currently have a DVD burner, Regular DVD and 5 - 80 gig HD's

Here's a random result from a google search http://www.verbatim.com.au/products/productdetail.cfm?ID=KW571Ahttp://www.verbatim.com.au/products/productdetail.cfm?ID=KW571A

Edit: Oh, Serial ATA.. Ok now I know.
Edited by anonymous_viewer on 10/08/04 01:43 PM.

Most onboard SATA controllers have an option in the bios that allows you specify RAID or BASE (Gigabyte terminalogy used here). RAID is self explanitory, Raid usage.. BASE, runs each drive as a stand alone drive, using no special RAID utilities, just a standard regular ol' hard drive. Check with the manufacturer/manual of your motherboard.

Go SCSI, 15 devices. ;) Just a bit expensive.
