I've recently downloaded the eternal champions sega-cd iso files, and once extracted, I get these 6 files:
eternalchamp-pal.cue
eternalchamp-pal.r00
eternalchamp-pal.r01
eternalchamp-pal.r02
eternalchamp-pal.rar
eternalchamp-pal.sfv
And the sound files, which I might ask about later. :)
I have all the bios files and I've conifgured Gens for them. I still can't even get any sort of booting, as Gens doesn't seem to recognize any of the above files. I've tried renaming them to ISOs, but that has no effect. How do I run this thing!?
thanks,

Noob in distress

What you have there is a four part RAR archive. RAR is like a zip file (a compressed file) but better IMHO. Your particular file is split into several parts. If you open up eternalchamp-pal.rar in a good RAR program (like WinRAR) it should automatically detect the other parts and open them in sequence, netting you the whole complete file. Then you can copy the ISO out of the archive and BAM! you're in buisness.

Extract the .rar file and let us know what you get. Unles you already did that to get the other files, in which case I have no clue. But it should give you a .bin or a .img file.

Only one thing to add.

> eternalchamp-pal.sfv

That file is a checksum file, with that you can check that the download was succesful and the rar packs are the same as they were when the svf was made. I personally use hksvf (http://www.big-o-software.com/products/hksfv/download.php) but there are other programs that can do this as well.
