lately, (for whatever reason) some advertisements on firefox haven't been loading, making the browser put up alert messages telling my connection timed out, or how it couldn't connect to the ad server, etc.

well, these alert messages were becoming a fucking epidemic on certain sites, and were annoying the shit out of me, so after some searching i found a cool fix:

enter about:config in your address bar, and go the following parameter:

browser.xul.error_pages.enabled

set this to true

now instead of showing an alert, it will give you a message within the web page that will tell you the content couldn't load. it's way less obtrusive, and doesn't pull you away from what you're doing.

thank goodness

Where is the option to turn off sound effects in the find bar?

Ah, thanks. I have had this problem a couple of times (not horribly like you have thankfully) but it's still great to have a fix for it.

They changed it in v1.0. It showes up at the bottom and it makes a swish sound as you type.

I've been using it...I don't think I've ever heard any swishing noises coming from it.

I have noticed that it only makes this noise when it can't find the characters that you find for as you type it and it turns red/pink color.

I found it<img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif>. accessibility.typeaheadfind.enablesound to FALSE I SAY! Didn't work at first but I thought it would change automaticly but a restart of the browser made it work and no more sound.
