Pretty special effects in some parts, crappy acting, complete butchering of the few jokes in there so that no one laughed, and just completely and utterly boring to me. Wish I had saved my $5.50.

I was thinking of seeing it... glad I decided not to if it's that bad (With all the over hyping I figured it would be)

From the ads it looks like nothing but actors on blue screens. I hope future movies still use sets.

Yeah, it looks very Sega-CD to me.

Actually the entire movie was acted in front of a blue screen I believe. Fairly interesting if you ask me...

Decent movie. I guess I liked how it was cliche' and knew it. Everything was predictable so I was never, ever on the edge of my seat. I can't say I really cared for the characters, but I was midly entertained by some very interesting ideas and some nice CG (nowhere near Riddick quality, though). Worth seeing if you just genuinely like movies and more cliche' than you could ever imagine, I actually enjoyed it :).

At first I was like "Ok, this is all 1930's sci fi comic cliche' style, so it should be cool". But after 2 hours of it, coupled with what I considered bad acting (How the hell can Angelina Jolie make a kick ass movie like Taking Lives then turn around and do this???), and just a really boring plot after a while. I thought it looked boring when I saw the trailer, but then I heard some people on the radio movie review show who saw it in Toledo hyping the hell out of it. Go figure.

I am much wanting to see this. 30s sci-fi vision of the future = win.

And a 73% rating on the Tomatometer isn't bad at all.

Oh, and Ghost in the Shell 2 came out today as well.

I will have to take a look at this one. By the time I finally figured out what the hell was going on in the first one, it was over. Which sort of pissed me off. But maybe part 2 is better.

Dunno if you saw the dubbed or subtitled version, but FWIW, the subtitled made a lot more sense when I watched it. The general understanding I've been given, though, is that GitS is a lot easier to follow if you've read the manga.

I rented the dvd and watched the subs. I finally managed to get what was going on, but by the time that occured the movie was over. But yeah, probably would make more sense if I had read the manga.

Exactly, not only did my favorit characters not make the cut, they cropped the entire first half of the manga to make the movie, not to mention changed the ending. While it was a good movie it was nothing compaired to the manga. Ofcourse that's the very problem with movie formate it would have need to have been 3hours atlessed to get everything in if it were edited as 30 min section, as if it were a 6 episode OAV. Then still the pasing might have gotten rushed. I can understand why you don't get it. Oh! the cyber sex sceens were cut from the english version of the manga because Shirow felt everyone keeped taking it the wrong way, as it was intended as nothing more than a joke, but no every one had to read more into it. A never mind anyway.

Yes. For $ 5.50 around here, you can get two four packs and drink on the dock in back of the bank, watching the sunset and talking to the pelicans.
I'd say you screwed up. <img src=smilies/banghead.gif>

But, I also just saw Resident Evil 2, and that totally kicked ass so it evens out.

I'd hate to break it to you, but THAT was a terrible movie right there. You can tell he's the killer, you can tell she's fooling him at the craptacular end... It was a hackneyed, cliche thriller. The only reason anyone saw it at all was they hype over the nekkid scene. And it's a really sad movie that can't be saved by nekkid Angelina Jolie.

I had never even heard of the movie when it came out. I just had 1 free rental left and figured what the hell. You must remember the kind of horseshit I am forced to watch and rent to people on a regular basis. In comparison to say Club Dread, or at this time next year "Taxi" with Queen Latifa, Taking Lives was cinematic gold.
*edit* oh yeah, and if you have any suggestions for a good thriller for me to watch, please feel free to do so. I really could use some good movies that I haven't seen yet.
On the note of good movies however, just bought In the Heat of the Night for $11 on dvd.

Saw it today. It's a fine movie; I can say with total honesty that I liked it better than Hellboy and about five-hundred trillion times better than Van Helsing. Think of it as an otherwise average superhero movie with a fiercely original atmosphere and breathtaking visuals.

Well I haven't seen Van Helsing, and I slept through most of Hellboy so I guess I can't make a comparison there. My friends went to see it yesterday, and 2 of them liked it and the third agreed with me.
