*delurks* I am wanting to build a computer, but I'm not sure what the best parts I could get would be with only about $600 or so to spend. I'd be using it for mainly for multimedia, gaming, and school work and would most likely be running Fedora. Whatever you can tell me is appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

I would have to suggest a "computer case" along with "computer boards." With this combination, a pint of goat's blood, and a candle made from the solidified lust juices of seventy virgins, your "computer building" ritual will go smoothly.

Pricewatch sucks. The lowest price is never the best place to buy, because some of those places suck ass.

Hey there. ;)
Anyway, if you're planning on using it for gaming and you're shooting for less than $600, then you'll kind of have to decide just how advanced to go with the graphics hardware....the more advanced we get the more pricey the card is gonna get...if you're not planning on playing the most recent games, then don't go with the most recent cards. In many cases that's like bleeding edge hardware anyway, at this point.
Likewise, if it's 2-D gaming, you shouldn't need a super powerful card IMHO, and if it's emulation you shouldn't need a super powerful card either...in that case (correct me if I'm wrong someone) the actual processor would be a LOT more important.

NEC 16X Double Layer DVD±RW Drive, Black, Model ND-3500A BK, OEM $78.00
Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD800JD, OEM Drive Only $69.25

eVGA nVIDIA GeForce FX5700 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP -RETAIL $127.00

You'll need to add a hsf and ide cables to it though do to some oem parts, should be only about 15 bucks if you get a stock hsf..

If you can reccomend a another site, then, one that either archives the real lowest prices around at reputable sites or itself sells hardware at the lowest prices around 90-100% of the time, be my guest.

I'd rather have decent prices than lowest prices. As always, I recommend http://www.newegg.comNewegg</A>. I tried ordering the lowest price stuff from Pricewatch from a place called BzBoyz, and three weeks later, after no word, I cancelled my order. Lots of fun. Then I found Newegg.

I've ordered plenty of things off of there and had no problem. I just stay away from anything that's a Yahoo Store.
Also, there's a feedback system now at Pricewatch that gives you a better idea of the reputation of who you are buying from.

That's because you never used ResellerRatings (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2048.html). Notice how crappy that store ranks?

yeah newegg and zipzoomfly are pretty good parts companies and it always pays to use something like reseller ratings.
