I was actually poking around EasyMame when I came across the pics of these fancy joysticks in the options. X-arcade, SlikStik, and HotRod.
I'm curious - has anyone ever used one of these and if so, do you like it? I had never heard of them until seeing the pics in EasyMame and I thought the concept was pretty cool. So, your opinions? And do you have a preference of the various types?

My friend has an X-Arcade which he uses with his game consoles, and it works wonderfully. I've heard good things about the HotRod as well, and if you're absolutely loaded with money, go with a SlikStik.

x-arcade is junk. they use happs knock-off parts, and you can tell the second you use it
kuik told me about an awesome alternative called MAS stick, and it actually feels like a real arcade stick. the only thing better is building your own stick from scratch, but that might be too time consuming for the average person

Time-consuming and too technical for me. Though if I were more skilled, it would be pretty cool to do.

Well, the Slik Stik looked interesting. Especially since it has the trackball built into it which some games like Tac/Scan use. I am definitely considering one of these.
The single player X-arcade is good for the money, but that SlikStik... Like you said - highly expensive, but pretty damn sweet-looking. $480 is just kind of out of my price range unforunately... Do you (or anyone) by chance know if they have sales on their stuff? HotRod seems okay too.. Too hard to decide.
I also liked how the SlikStik site offers a full cabinet. That would make for an interesting project. <img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif>
I'll think about it, definitely.

The HotRod's are probably the best for your buck...X-Arcade is a piece of shit. For $100 you get 2 player capability and excellent real feel for a HotRod.....I've never seen/used a SlikStik but they look pretty tight, but for the best value I'd go with the HotRod.

It's too bad there's no way I can demo these beforehand. I've read the FAQs for some of these, and it looks like newer models are coming out. I'm probably just going to hold off for a bit. Thanks for the info.
