View Full Version : MAME users - I need a keyboard.cfg file

Anyone know where I can get this file? It is required to run the program and it didn't come with the new MAME build, and apparantly I can't log into their forums to ask. (It says my e-mail is used, hence no new account. I never registered one there).

So, anyone know where I can get this file?

In the words of the main dev, "eh? I don't have a keyboard.cfg file."

So, I suppose this begs the question, what distribution are you using, and what are your settings in mame.ini?

I have the newest one, 0.86

I haven't changed any settings in the INI files.

So what you're saying is that you're using an old INI file?

I guess... I was unaware there was a new INI file.

Given the fact that there was a massive overhaul in the way input works... yes, yes there is. Delete your current mame.ini and then recreate it with mame -cc.

I deleted it and it's still a no go after doing that command. Are there any other config files I might need to check into? I have even tried extracting mame to a separate folder and that's still a no go.

Here are some lines copied from my MAME.ini file which I'm thinkign are suspect

### Input device options ###
mouse 0
joystick 0
lightgun 0
dual_lightgun 0
offscreen_reload 0
steadykey 0
keyboard_leds 1
led_mode ps/2
a2d_deadzone 0.300000
# ctrlr <NULL> (not set)
paddle_device keyboard
adstick_device keyboard
pedal_device keyboard
dial_device keyboard
trackball_device keyboard
lightgun_device keyboard
digital none

What should I do? Also: I appreciate your help up to this point. Don't think I don't

I'm still looking...

EDIT: Just to make sure, you ARE using the official version from http://www.mame.net/, right?

Yes. I used the one one Zophar's and then even got the one from there. All files are the same, error is still present.

For now, I guess I'm going to just go get one of the older versions...

Actually, how about you delete EVERYTHING in your MAME folder except for your ROMs, then unzip the MAME 0.86 zip into the directory, and then tell me if the problem still occurs. There's not a single reason why it should, I just tried MAME 0.86 in a new directory and had no problems.

Well, we have success it seems. I guess I shouldn't have transfered all those folders when trying it again. Just the basic roms... I'll have to reconfig things, but I'm back on track.

Thank you kindly.

Note: I figured out what it must be: The old INI files for the individual games. I did salvage the NVRAM folder though. That helps with some games.

Yeah, that'd be exactly what it was, due to the new input system you have to delete all of your CFG and INI files.
