when i load the patch for the mario ninja turtles hack it shows the title screen but won't do anything else. am i using the wrong emulator?

I'm guessing you used the wrong SMB1 rom dump (there are quite a few). I'll try it with them and see if any of them work.

I tried 19 different roms and I couldn't get it to work. If you really want to play it, try looking for the rom already patched.

Try using NESticle. I believe the newer (and way more accurate) emulators have problems with a lot of the older SMB hacks due to the coin in the statusbar being edited wrongly. (some sprite 0 gunk, I think)
