well, i'm gonna (attempt) to flush the coolant system when i get to 30,000 miles (i'm at 22,000 now). also have to change the air cleaning element then too...and the a/c filter.
i HAVE to rotate the tires any time now...but seeing as though i have a single jack that came with the car, i can't do it myself. i ain't paying some garage money to do it. bah

Do what I did before I had two jacks.
Cinderblock. Granted, it's time consuming, but ya ain't gotta pay them overpaid bastards at the "tire center" to do it.

I do my own oil changes, mostly because I'm cheap /wwwthreads/images/icons/smile.gif but yeah, it's fun, especially when you dopr the little drain plug in a gallon and a half of hot motor oil and you burn your hand and halfway up your arm trying to fish it out, it's a blast /wwwthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif

do it with a cold engine..like in the morning when you first wake up. rev it up real high for a few secs (my rev limiter kicks in at 5000 rpm cause the engine is cold) to loosen any particles that settled.
it takes a few minutes longer for it to drain out because it's cool...but you don't burn yourself. besides, it's just enough time to finish that second beer you brought into the garage.

I was just about to post that is what I do. . . I hit the gas for like. .30 seconds. . it maxs at like. . I wanna say 4500 rpm estimation. then I just drain the sucker. . makes life easier.

It's been said that something like 50 percent of engine wear occurs in the first few seconds after startup, especially with a cold engine, because the oil takes a few seconds to get pumped up around inside the motor, revving up the motor certainly doesn't help. At 5000 rpm's, an individual piston will be moving at about 2500 feet per second, assuming a stroke of about 3 inches, and even in a good motor it will take a few seconds for oil to be pumped up properly. so in that time, a motor can incur some damage. Doing it once won't cause any noticeable damage, but if it's done enough, it can and will wear down internal parts a great deal. The way I do an oil change is I take my car out, drive it around until it's at operating temperature, then I drain the oil and filter. I usually pour oil into the filter, so that oil gets to the oil pump a bit faster, then I top off the motor, usually 4 or 5 quarts, then I'll drive it a bit, park it and check to make sure it's not leaking anywhere.
