Why not send your rebellious, upstart children to http://observer.guardian.co.uk/magazine/story/0,11913,987172,00.htmlTranquility Bay!</A> For only $40k a year, you too can have your child abused emotionally, physically, and probably sexually! All in the name of rehabilitation! Remember, if your straight-A student daughter gets herself the wrong boyfriend at 17 while applying for Harvard, it's not too late to send her to a prison camp where she can lie on her face on a tile floor crawling with pubic hairs and leeches for hours at a time, and suffer unspeakable indignities and pain, and a little PTSD afterwards, just to add icing to the cake! Be assured that your child will scream for no less than divine mercy when they have their limbs stretched back in painful, horribly unnatural positions, and other tortures that you can only begin to imagine! Please! Apply now!
Yeah, I know this is somewhat old, but tonight was the first time I was informed that this place ever existed...and it has made me physically ill. This sort of shit should be illegal. How in the fuck can these places even exist? <img src=smilies/cwm10.gif>

No, it's not. It's disguisting and inhumane.
Fuck those people.
Our children are not cattle, nor any kind of animal....God help anyone I catch treating them as such..that includes parents.

The description makes it sound like it's some sort of boot camp obedience school? Yeah, that won't scar the kids for life or anything.

There are more than a few people who should send their kids off to that place; the only problem is that the people whose kids really need that treatment can't afford the $40k/yr.

Yeah, I mean, what a great treatment headed by a guy who has absolutely no relevant training or education. Obviously the solution to teen deviancy is to put them in sub-human conditions, where they have to wash their clothes by hand near sewage pipes, and eat the pits and seeds of fruits and vegitables to stave off starvation. I mean, some of the reports from the survivors entail sitting awake at night, hearing one of their roommates scream for mercy, and being tormented and shown none.
It's a great life lesson to teach these kids. You can't trust anyone. Everyone is against you. Authority is only a source of abuse and neglect. Screw up, and the pack will whirl around and devour you whole, leaving nothing behind.
Oh, and most importantly, the programme is your life. You live your life by the programme. You were dead before you learned of the programme. You will live, breathe, speak, preach the programme, and punish the unbelievers.

Hah, I thought this was a joke a first. Parents actually send their kids here?

Yep, sounds just like what a lot of early teens these days require.

"You know,' offers Kay, 'if people want to talk about the length of the programme, it's up to the child. If a parent wonders why their kid is here so long, well gee, we are doing our part, maybe you need to ask your little Joey why he is not moving forward. Everyone knows how to earn the points.'"
do you ever read/see/hear something that just makes you so rediculously angry that if the authour of the offending print/remark was in front of you, you could probably literaly tear them limb from limb with your bare hands? yah... well this is one of those for me
god, this sounds all too framiliar. my friend was sent to drug rehab sometime last year, and when i got a chance to see him for the first time this summer, he was telling me about his program. Like Tranquility Bay, he's not aloud to look at the females, although he said nothing about any sort of physical punishment at all.
He did, though, mention that if he were to have had any type of substance over his brief visit back (i asked if he could share a cigar on July 4th, he said no) that he would be locked in a white room for 72 hours without being able to speak..
<img src=smilies/eek5.gif>
i'm no doctor, but that sounds fucked up
edit: i'm sorry wait, upon further investigation, he actually is in one of the affiliated programs, although not in Jamaica, i think he was somewhere in utah.. god, i'm glad he's just about done with that

It is. Here's the disclaimer they make parents sign before they send their kids to concentration camps.
Parents sign a legal contract with Tranquility Bay granting 49 per cent custody rights. It permits the Jamaican staff, whose qualifications are not required to exceed a high-school education, to use whatever physical force they feel necessary to control their child. The contract also waives Tranquility's liability for harm that should befall a child in its care.
I.E. We can and will torture your child into submission. ANYONE can get a job there, and they need no qualifications aside from a high school diploma, which doesn't say shit about your intelligence or capability to deal with troubled teenagers.
I think this place is a pedophile / sadist magnet, myself. I don't think we're getting the whole story, either. What goes on in there after the reporters go home...? <img src=smilies/cwm10.gif>
This place needs to be liberated by force, military or otherwise.
Oh, and I found a http://fornits.com/wwf/viewtopic.php?topic=5262&forum=9&63forum post with a list of abuses</A> committed at place called Provo Canyon School, which basically does the same shit to the "patients" that go there. What a fucking mess. <img src=smilies/angryfire.gif>

For the sake of argument, let's say that you have kids. Now, they do something dumb. Not un-heard of. So you're going to send them to what amounts to being a prison camp? Wouldn't you be more than a bit worried about the welfare of your child? You're going to teach them the so called error of their ways by putting them in grievous physcial danger (not to mention the mental side effects of such a thing)?
What sort of a parent would do that?

They hopefully wouldn't, given the fact that a child misbehaving once or twice or doing something that the parent simply disagrees with once or twice does not in itself warrant a trip to that place. The problem is that the kids that really need to be sent to that place also have parents that just doni't give a shit, so no, their parents won't send them there, which is unfortunate because it sounds like something like that is pretty good for undoing years of "do whatever the fuck you want".

That's not surprising, considering http://www.prisonexp.org/this</A>. Sorry world, but any dumbshit who sends their kids to these camps is a complete failure as a parent.

Hmmm...and that study lasted for only six days, because it was called off prematurely, and the people who were involved actually signed up for the experiment.
Now let's turn that into 1-3 years, and being unexpectedly abucted from your home. <img src=smilies/headshake.gif>

Yeah, like some of the things in the article cited as being reasons for sending children there...*shivers* absolutely stupid things that don't sound major to me at all. Oh, my kid swore once...*calls the gestapo*

I suppose it would get rid of that, but what I'm saying is "But at what cost?" Those children seem to have been turned into nothing more than automatons. They aren't people anymore, they're the programme. That is all.
Half these things wouldn't probably happen in the first place if parents actually gave it a good try in the first place.
