Forever. It's a Western Digital...I've never had a bad drive from WD.

pretty small buffer at only 2MB...i can see that becoming a bottleneck
i got the 250 gig 7200 RPM western digital with 8MB buffer last year for about 180

I've never understood the problem with refurbishment. As I see it, it's been through the factory twice, so there's half the chance for a problem.

That's crazy. With the exception of my PS2, every system that I own is either used or refurbished and I've never had a problem with any of them.
Oops. I lied. I forgot that the Gamecube I have is new. I had originally bought one that was used and it kept giving me some error screen after about an hour of play so I took it back to EB Games and paid the difference for a new one.

Count 2 bad ones for me... an 8GB a number of years ago, and then the very next 20GB one I bought after it also went bad. On account of that my next few drives were Maxtors. Running WDs again now at the moment though (only replaced the Maxtors because I wanted more HD space).

I've ordered from MWave in the past on various occasions and never had a problem with them.
(...And no, the drives I mentioned in the other post here weren't from them) <img src=smilies/thumb.gif>

That's kind of funny, because my experience is the exact opposite. Every WD drive I've ever owned, except one, has died on me. Not only that, but five of them died the week after the expiration of WD's then 3-year warranty.
The one that I have left, my current primary drive weighing in at 40GB, is in the midst of dying. It's been whining, literally, for about a year now. WD drives are good while they last, they just don't seem to last very well sometimes.
Ironically, I just bought a 200GB 7200RPM 8MB ATA133 HDD by Maxtor (the DiamondMax Plus 9, I believe; 6Y200P0) the other day (Sunday, actually) for $109. Great deal as far as I'm concerned, though I got it a bit cheaper than normal due to a little technicality in the advertised sale price. Whatever, I still got it at $109.
As for my other HDD, a 120GB 7200RPM 8MB ATA133 HDD by Maxtor as well, it hasn't shown one ounce of problem since I bought it. It's quiet as a whisper, and I like that.
As for the drive linked in the first post, it's either refurb or OEM, or both. OEM = no warranty = bad news. I'd rather spend more and feel a bit safer with a retail box.
>I've never understood the problem with refurbishment. As I see it, it's been through the factory twice, so there's half the chance for a problem.
Yeah, except that the reason it went back to the factory the second time is because it broke in the first place. I'd never want to own something that's already broken once. :)

Ya I'll agree, but SATA is more affordable for most people I would imagine.
