I went to Windows Update v5 with my laptop and installed all the new stuff...in turn, that upgraded me to SP2 RC2.
I like the new interface of v5, but I dislike how it's less detailed in the individual updates.
SP2 RC2 has a new security center which checks to make sure the built in firewall is on, there's virus protection active and automatic updates are on. I disabled McAfee to do some things and Windows popped up saying McAfee was deactivated...it wanted to reenable it for me. Neat.
Another thing I noticed about SP2 RC2 is that the "home" part of the XP Home loading logo is gone. I guess they're dropping the home/professional?
With the recent swarm of updates from MS came a new program called BITS that it installs. The only machine here in the building with a pirated key (a temp machine we setup for interns) did NOT have that in the install list....I guess as soon as SP2 is final that machine won't update.
All in all, I like the way MS is doing things. They're making progress. Now the trick is to get everyone to install SP2...the last update they ever have to manually do in their life.
