Have you seen the minimum requirements for it?!

Low-End:
- 1.5 Ghz P4 or equivalent
- 512 MB Ram
- GeForce4 Ti 4600 or Radeon 9500

Mid-Range:
- 2.4 Ghz P4 or equivalent
- 1 GB RAM
- GeForce 5950 or Radeon 9800 Pro/XT

High-End:
- 3.4 Ghz P4 or AMD equivalent
- 2 GB RAM
- GeForce 6800 Ultra or Radeon X800 XT PE.

My computer doesn't even meet low end. <img src=smilies/cry.gif>

And this is why I am more of a console gamer than a PC gamer. You really don't need to purchase uprades for a console to play games, not including memory cards and a internet device of sorts. If I wanted to play Doom 3, I'd have to buy a new computer, there's no doubt about it, or I could buy an X Box and a copy of Doom 3 for that console (which would be cheaper than buying a new computer). My goal is to one day own a computer that will break 400 MHz.

I've always intended to buy it, but I wanted a sneak peak --- so I downloaded it. About 10 minutes into gameplay, I deleted it out of respect for its total awesomeness.

I don't understand the hype.

It's got pretty graphics...but it's a first person shooter. The same one that everyone was making fun of for having shitty creatures, like the lame floating skeleton creatures they had running around that looked like something out of some angsty teenager's notebook.

I just don't get it, I guess, but FPS games just don't excite me anymore. It's nothing more than a glorious "move around the crosshairs and click on things" sort of deal. What does this one do better than any other FPS out there?

Maybe I'm still bitter about Interplay and the fact that I'll never see Baldur's Gate III or Fallout 3, and am kind of jealous of how hyped up people are getting about this game, considering that I fell out of love with FPSes a long time ago.

Convert me. Why should this game do anything more for my than, say, Unreal Tournament 2004 or the upcoming Half-Life 2, both of which don't excite me in the least?

Both the atmosphere and story are very engaging. The characters, setting, and sound effects draw you in excellently, and there's lots and lots of small details to be investigated that add flavor to the proceedings. You have a personal PDA that can download e-mails, audio reports, and other data that's extraordinarily well written/acted and absolutely eerie. The setup is very reminiscent of the first Half-Life, and when things go to hell (literally), man oh man is it awesome.

For the record, I didn't like FarCry very much at all. All of the characters and enemies seemed hackneyed, and I just couldn't get into the role very much. This game, on the other hand, is a true single player experience with a compelling plot that takes itself very seriously. It really is capable of completely drawing you into a fully realized universe.

I'm not a big fan of FPSes as one-player games, but I love the multiplayer. It amazes me how many times I can play four-player Halo and not get sick of it. The only one-player FPS I ever got into was Perfect Dark (and to a limited extent, Duke Nukem 3D), and that was because it involved more than just rabidly killing everything that crossed your sights.

Personally I really can't get into most FPS (the only one I have really like was Metroid Prime) because they make me motion sick after a while. And that can really kill the fun of a game eh?

Mine. I can OC my Radeon 9700 pro to a 9800 Pro fairly easily, and I have 1 GB of RAM + AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Need to OC this puppy 200mhz, but not until I get my hardcano correctly set up to read my REAL CPU temp, and not the lame ass BIOS temp reader, fucking shitty ass motherboard, omfg tangent)

Minimum:
P4 1.5Ghz CPU (or equivalent).
384MB of RAM.
64MB graphics card (see below for chip details).
2GB of free hard drive space.

Lowest supported GPU is a Geforce 4 MX (worse than Geforce 3).
Supported cards:
GF 4 MX.
GF 3.
GF 4.
GF FX (and higher).
Radeon 8500s, 9000s and higher.

PC Gamer were the first to review they themselves recommend:
2Ghz CPU.
512MB RAM.
Radeon 9800.
5-channel sound card and speakers.

A Geforce MX4...that's it...I'm tired of the people saying they need outrageous system specs to play this game...granted it probably doesn't break the sound barrier in fps terms when played with an mx4 but then I'm sure it won't be like watching a slide show or it wouldn't be put on there....Happy everyone?

Those are the official specs. The game's good. I really like it. Very dark, very very dark. And creepy. I really like it, did I mention? :) I suggest getting it, and upgrading if you don't meet the requirements. I'd suggest at least an XP 2500+ with 512MB RAM.

An ATi Radeon 9800+ wouldn't be bad either. :)

Yeah, it's awsome. I'm running a XP 2100+ with 512MB RAM, and using a GForce3 with 128 video RAM. While I have to run on midlevel settings, the game is still a blast.

I've run through it, sucked ass... I'm very disapointed couse I had really high hopes of it but it has the "ooh wee can do shadows, lets not light up any rooms at all so the player will have to run around in the darkness looking at the pretty shadows" disease.

Indeed, however, ATI is addressing the OpenGL issue specifically for Doom III in their next driver release so it should catch up a bit.
They haven't updated OpenGL in over a year now, bastards with their fancy shmancy DirectX, yeah Carmack, show 'em who's boss! *does a jig*

I still ordered X800XT instead of GeForce 6800 Ultra, why? First of all, I know it runs Doom III better and I was expecting it too since ID likes them GeForce lads, but it's still just one game. And let's just say this GeForce4 ti4200 I'm using now hasn't exactly impressed me, while all newer Radeons has.
Let's not forget to mention the PSU upgrade I would need as well, go go gadget lame ass powersink.

No offense Nvidia fanboys, I'm not really an ATI fanboy so you can throw down your pitchforks, it's just that the ti4200 has left me with a bitter taste for the Forces of Ge.

Ugh! Just installed the RELOADED rip on to my PC.

My PC said, "Thank you sir. May I have another."

Another mobo, cpu, video card and about 128MB more of RAM.

Why oh why do game companies such as ID almost force you into upgrades just to play their games. It pisses me off.

Perhaps because better graphics comes out and people want to see it?
Seriously, if you read reviews on Doom III and listen to people I doubt you'll find many saying it is ridiculous because it requires a good PC, the engine is incredible compared to what it can do.

I would not have guessed that I could get this good graphics on this crappy computer without it slowing down to <10 fps, hence also one of the reasons why I ordered a bunch of new things for my comp before I got Doom III.

I for one wouldn't want the graphics lowered just because there are people who doesn't meet the demands (I really don't think they are that high anyways), and if I were to guess I'd say I'm in the majority.

You could tweak the cfg a lot, I'm sure there's an "r_picmip" setting or whatnot that will compress the textures into oblivion. Though I have to say, turning shadows and bump mapping off would drastically reduce the experience.

I think my video card could just about cut it. Wouldn't be able to handle all the effects the game has, but enough to get by. My processor and memory are what's really slowing things down.

1.1Ghz and 384MB aren't doing the job.

The only other game I have that really kicks my PC's ass with the highest quality graphics turn on is "Operation Flashpoint".

I think I've found a solution though that should solve the problem.

I'm planning on buying a barebones system. It's one of those little cube looking PC's that Shuttle put's out . Like this! (http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=MB-2100068&Bag=yy)

I'll get it shipped with an Athlon XP 2600+ and 512MB DDR266 and then toss the rest of the parts from my PC into it and I should be good.
