get these releases stat! they fix a vulnerability in the mozilla code that allows malicious programs to be run from the browser.

now before you say "boy, that sounds like IE", consider this. the problem was discovered YESTERDAY, and the fix is out TODAY. this is why open source is so good. if something breaks, it gets repaired. when you have a community of committed programmers, you make progress, not excuses.

Yah, IE truly is craptacular. They weren't lying when they said that FireFox was like a web browsing revelation. Coming from IE, I downloaded it and gave it a try and was blown away. Better features, better security, and quite a slick little program besides. That, and IE STILL doesn't seem to support transparency in PNGs, which is stupid because it's a part of the format and if IE supports viewing of PNG graphics it should fully support them.

Firefox would still be infinitely better than IE if it just had the popup blocker.

Also, the bug only effects XP (and possibly NT/2000) systems, because when the shell: interface get something it doesn't understand, it passes it on the OS to parse. Firefox for Linux, OS X, and any other OS are uneffected, so this looks to me like a Microsoft hole, that Mozilla stumbled upon. I think WinXP SP2 corrects the code Mozilla calls here, so SP2 users are immune.

If you are on XP, and don'r want to upgrade just yet, get the extension to patch this vulnerability. It can be found here. (http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=154)
