You know, you can mod an Xbox to use a standard PC DVD drive. You'll get much better compatibility with cd-r's, for example.

The mods I've seen like that require you to have a standard Xbox DVD drive handy (like right on top or whatever) of the PC DVD so it can access it, and you have to put an Xbox disc in the original while you have the non-auth disc in the PD-DVD Rom or something. Check xbox-scene. :P

maq is right. If a PC DVD drive is put into the Xbox, it will no longer read original Xbox DVDs.

actually, i'm looking for a box w/ a samsung drive so's i can mod it, so a premodded box would be good. sure, i'd miss out on the fun of modding, but i'd also miss the out on the scary 'i might break the son-of-a-bitch' part too. :P is your's a chipped box? if so, what chip? and would it come with 2 controllers (hopefully S)? price me.

Modding is actually quite easy. I have the most unsteady hand in the world, and my mod (xecuter 2.3b pro) went without a hitch. except for the part where i accidentally pulled out the d-zero trace. but that's fixed now (i can't boot without the modchip unless I find some extra wires and have extra time to try and recomplete the circuit). It's not dat hard.

yeah, i put a 4-wire chip in my psone without too much trouble. i wasn't too worried about it though, because it didn't really cost me that much. fucking up a $150 xbox is a little scarier.

You really can't fuck it up like I did unless you pull out a wire when it's soldered, like I did. If you keep steady and tape D0 down, you're set. That's the hardest one. Even if you fuck up the install, unless you have some points touching (get desoldering braid), your xbox should still work

BTW: here is some info.

one controller, it will be the original Hamburer controller (I have no S controllers) it's an Executor 2.0 Lite, with EvoX. Of course, it has the Samsung drive, and just in case you are wondering.. yes, I will wipe the HDD before sending it to you. Sorry, I cant sell you copied games, lol. Oh, and the HDD is a 60gb Maxtor 7200RPM with 8mb cache.
