Legit app. http://bcheck.arsware.org/hoe.php

Maybe I should explain what I'm running there...javaw is doing azureus, i have an smtp server, apache, forte agent, vmware dhcp and net helpers, dnsservice for dyndns.org, vcool a cpu cooler. Other than that, I don't see any special or rogue programs running...

Windows 2000, XP, Longhorn (Known to leak memory), or 2003 Server? Run an updated ad-aware, check your services, and look in the registry for shit that's loading--somewhere you'd have to find the problem. Unless you've got a mystery memory leak bug that needs to be reported. Try ending the process in task manager and File -> New Task (Run) explorer.exe again and watch it and see if it happends.

Check all your files for validity. I found http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1086055365a thread on Annoyances.org</a> from a person who was having the same problem, but it turned it out was Explorer trying to make a thumbnail of an invalid AVI file.

You, Sir, are a genius. As soon as I read your post I immediately went to a folder that has an avi and lo and behold explorer tripled to quadrupled its memory usage! Thank you very much!

PS: How do you turn off thumbnails in Windows XP Pro?
