his method of justifying wars is quote similar:

We have no interest in oppressing other people. We are not moved by hatred against any other nation. We bear no grudge. I know how grave a thing war is. I wanted to spare our people such an evil. It is not so much the country of Czechoslovakia; it is rather its leader, Edward Benes. He has led a reign of terror. He has hurled countless people into the profoundest misery.
Through his continuous terrorism, he has succeeded in reducing millions of his people to silence. The Czech maintenance of a tremendous military arsenal can only be regarded as a focus of danger. We have displayed a truly unexampled patience, but I am no longer willing to remain inactive while this madman ill-treats millions of human beings.

yes, i realize to say he is the second incarnation of hitler is a false analogy, but the rhetorical style (translated from german i guess) is strikingly close to what bush says.

Well, first of all I doubt Bush studied Hilter :P... but this speech only very simply says there is an evil and we will not allow for it... you could say this a hundred different ways and compare them all on the same level.

Yeah, first the fact that it's a translation (and it seems fairly choppy) and the message is straight forward and very basic. I don't think a recognition of evil and use of the word "terror" can really represent a style.

Indeed. While Hitler was an evil, evil man you have to admit that in a sick and twisted way he did do some good things like see to it that there was an affordable car for Das Volk, called the Volkswagen.

My uncle said one time that if Hitler hadn't been so vil, he would probably have been considered a great political leader, seeing as how he totally rebuilt Germany's economy after World War 1

The problem was, though, that he was a fascist. I'd be careful of saying many good things about fascist regimes. Incidentally, I'd said something to that effect in this (http://www.sgduncan.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/scott/academic/ec.doc) essay (first page) from my junior honours year. Just in case you wanted to develop that idea at all.

Note: all errors found within the essay are fully intentional.

My point was not that Bush is a Nazi, it was that anyone can get up on a podium and make their descisions sound benevolent, even if they aren't. So basically, "don't take his word for it."

Well, in any case, Bush compares himself to Hitler.

Go to http://www.georgebush.comGeorgeBush.com and click on the big, green WATCH button/arrow.

Is it just me, or is that the most ineffective campaign ad ever?

I was under the impression that Bush compares Kerry to Hitler.

Hitler was one of the best leaders and motivational speakers of all time, too bad he was anti-semetic. I really hate the man, but you have to admit that he was able to motivate Germany which was so poor people used money for fires becuase it was cheaper than wood, and was able to take over most of europe. He did make the mistake of trying to dominate the whole world, that's where you see that he really was crazy. But there is a fine line between genius and insanity.
