View Full Version : The most current version of the DivX Codec is pissing me off!

Can anyone besides me get "Multipass - nth Pass" encoding to work right? I'm trying to encode my Spirited Away DVD into DivX, and it freezes at a certain point each time....I know it's the Codec because if I choose Single Pass encoding it gets past that point just fine, and Multi Pass - First Pass encoding does too, although I can't see any picture when I play the video. <img src=smilies/eek13.gif>

I'd really like to get "Multi Pass - Nth Pass" to work since it seems it will give me better quality with a lower filesize than Single Pass will (from what little I've been able to experiment). Also, I'm using VirtualDubMod, if that makes a difference...

I'm an idiot....both of the 'problems' I mentioned are related....you see, Mutli Pass - First Pass is meant only to create the Divx.log (and that bin file) that are needed by Multi Pass - Nth Pass. It's not supposed to make working video.

The reason that Mutli Pass - Nth Pass was freezing was that I didn't have a full Divx.log file of the video for it to use, so it was just sort of sitting there going "Huh? What's going on?".

As a sidenote, as it goes through the log file (and encodes the video) Nth Pass also updates the divx log file, so theoretically the more passes you make, the more efficient and nice your video will be compressed.

Phew, I'm glad I got that figured out. :P
