in the days of PSOne, i remember certain model numbers being better than others. is this the case with PS2? i want to pick up a used system, but i want to make sure i don't pick up one of the faultier units.

If you're planning on chipping it, a version 5 is probably one of the best. If you're not looking to mod chip it, the newer the model, the more reliable it is. I'm sure you can find a site that has model numbers that correspond to the version. Mine's a version 2 because it has 4 screws on the bottom, and some number combo that I can't remember for a model #.

i just learned a little thing about different ps2s...newer models have IR recievers in them, allowing them to work with the dvd remote so you don't need that doohickey that goes into the controller slot. i wish i knew which model they were sending in the mail, because i'd really like to use the new version remote
