View Full Version : Supreme Court Dodges "One Nation Under God" ruling.

apparently, the Supreme Court dodged the "Under God" court trial due to a technicality. it appears that the father that filed the lawsuit wasn't technically allowed to, as he is in a custody battle with his ex-wife over the daughter.

WTF is wrong with you? The ALCU protects CIVIL LIBERTIES. Rights guaranteed to you by the constitution. I guess you're saying that those rights shouldn't be protected. Unless you like facists, in which case you're probably proud of a lot of the good stuff they've done. Makes sence to me.

as much as i think he was just feeding the troll with an unserious comment, it is irritating to see the term fascism thrown around with the apparent deinition of "anyone who prohibits something i like".
in fact, these are the same kind of people who would be sweeped up by actual fascism if its particular flavor appealed to them,. less well-known characteristics beyond vanilla-flavored totalitarianism of it are:
- Gloriication 0f war for its own sake
- Extreme nationalism
- Total government control of industry, which still remains in private hands and isn't necessarily monopolistic, but is heavily controlled by the government.
- The forbidding of union or strike activity.
- Appeals to the strength of the people (The Folk, Das Vollke)
- Censorship of "decadent" art, usually that not done in a manner that portrays romanticism or classicism.
- Expansionism (invading other countries and taking their land)
- Fascists also generally believe that their system allows freedom, in that one can rise to the top of the system through hard work and then have the freedom to have power over others. So it's basicallly: one guy's really free, the rest of his cabinet are pretty free, and you're less and less free as you go down the totem pole, and getting there requires conforming your way to the top.
The ACLU are not fucking fascists.

Right, and ripping a small cross off a state flag is really protecting our civil liberties :P, putting bans on prayer... that's protecing me, too. Letting students graduate with bands that support terrorist groups... more protection there. http://www.zophar.net/wwwthreads/smilies/flipa.gif They ACLU manipulates the constitution and the first amendment for thier own agenda, and then they hide behind it when people disagree with them. Perhaps they should start protecting real problems, not destroying historical symbols and continously pounding away at the rights of Christians. And let's be clear here, they single out Christianity and accept other faiths as things worth of history value.
To hell with the ACLU. People need to stand up against them and watch out for thier rights. And yes, they are facist, liberal extremists, history-raping secularists--- take your pick.

And if a two-headed space monkey offered cut-price magic beans, would you buy them? I'm not getting your analogy. Banning prayer in school is not about destroying rights - it's about keeping education non-religious. Taking the cross off the flag isn't about destroying rights - it's about keeping government non-religious. They're not fascist, Danoz - admit that you fucked up.

You poor thing, I don't know how you survive with all this religious discrimination. Churches are being raided all over the country, Christians are being arrested and prevented from worshipping, and they're being prevented from participating in government. Oh...wait...none of that is happening. I guess you do have freedom of religion.
Seriously Danoz, I'm sure you have complaints about certain legislation, but I find your exaggerations really offensive. The removal of monuments from public parks does not prevent you from practicing your religion. The removal of religious references from government does not prevent you from practicing your religion. Just because you disagree with something doesn't mean you're justified in blowing it to whatever proportions suit your rhetorical needs. None of these things are imposing on your individual freedom, so give the bullshit a rest.

As long as people are not forced to practice a religion, or are not kept from practicing a religion, they have no right to interfere. They're promoting a secular divorce, and that's both intolerant AND unconstitutional. We have a distinction, and that's all that's called for.

None of those things existing were imposing on any individual freedom. How about, a small minority is "offended". Well, what if I said I take offense to it's removal? What if millions of people did? The ACLU doesn't give a shred to those people. They only protect liberal and secular interests. Forcing people to remove them, however, does remove the right to have them there-- and the right to recognize something that our country was historically founded on. Why can't I be outraged at this without your bullshit? Can't you see that forcing people to eliminate things as petty as symbols is the start of something dangerous? Telling a valid victorian that she can't mention God in her speech is dangerous, and continually pushing an already thin thread.
Of course you want Christians to sit back and not give a shit, but I assure you we aren't apathetic when we see a wall of intolerance closing in.

I notice that you changed the argument to something you could defend. None of this is the issue that the people here are complaining about. I'm not particularly opinionated about things like monuments or religious references in the pledge, so I'm not going to argue with you about it.
> The ACLU doesn't

In theory, the ACLU should be preventing these things for all religions, not just Christianity. If that's not true (though I think it is), then I agree that there is discrimination, but it's a far cry from fascism.

I think the ultimate goals of the ACLU are to do a lot more than just eliminate some symbols. I'm trying to convey that there is nothing good about this organization, and giving them leverage in any situation is dangerous to all our freedoms.

They also stood up for alot of Arab men who were being deported and locked away without trial, when they had not done anything wrong at all. Shurely you don't agree with racial profiling and discrimination. Not everything they've done has been good, and no one's denying that. The Thomas Moore law orginization is clearly a "Christian" orginization, and they have done some very good thing in the way of standing up for people's rights as human beings, but they've also done just as much fucked up stuff as the ACLU.
