Let's be honest. Most people are overweight and unhealthy. I'm not HUGE, but I am a little soggy around the mid-section....and I have NO endurance at all.
I don't recall if I wrote a diary entry about it (too lazy to check), but I've been out doing the walking thing lately. It's a 2 mile route around the neighborhood and it takes me about 30 minutes at a moderate pace. I stretch for a few mins, go walk 1.9 miles at a fast pace (fast enough that I feel my legs burn but not jogging or running), then walk a normal slow walking pace the last 2 blocks or so to cool down the muscles, stretch again at home (REALLY easy since the muscles are warmed up now), then take a COLD shower.
Tonight I got back to the street on which I live (when I stop walking and just stroll the rest of the way to cool down the muscles) and it felt incomplete. If I feel the same way tomorrow I may tack another mile on to it. After that I'll probably begin actually running an extended distance (right now I'll just sprint a block or two) because it's about 15 mins per mile. 4 miles = too long of a time to just walk.
Fellas....it feels GREAT. I'm serious. During the route you're like "oh my goodness I'm going to die", but it's over before you know it....the cold shower is AWESOME...and afterwards you feel energetic and happy...like you want to go prance around like an idiot singing a song. I've been doing it for like a week and it looks like it's going to become a permanent part of my day.
About 2 weeks ago I cut all sugar out of my diet. Completely. I always use the cancer-causing fake sugar in everything now, I drink the diet soda, sugar free jello, etc. I still have cookies once in a while so it's not like I'm a nut now....but it's totally out of my regular food habits. I don't eat at all hours of the day (appetite has diminished quite a bit since I started excercising), and I DON'T EAT CHEESEBURGERS AND FRIES every day.
I weighed myself 4 days ago...not exactly something about which to brag. Before I went out for a walk tonight I was 5 pounds lighter. Post walk I was 2 pounds lighter than that (probably water loss from sweat).
I'm not sitting here craving food and all that crap...it's not like I'm depriving myself of food or having a strict diet. Maybe it's a matter of outside motivation...maybe self gratification...maybe both.
Life is good.

Sounds good. People only feel like crap when they try to overdo an activity they're not used to. Light exercise is pretty good for helping you feel more energized. Glad it's working out for ya.

I'm a fat piece of shit. I'm not huge, but I'm up to around 240. And I thought I was a huge when I was at 180 about three years ago. I stand 5'8" and most of the added bulk (or extra gift wrap as I put when I attempt to smooth talk any women) is basically my ass and my gut. I'm too fucking lazy to go for a walk so about a week and a half before I travel to Jersey to see my sister and cousin, I plan on not eating and just drinking tea. A liquid diet, if you will. Ideally, I want to purchase a nice piece of exercise equipment and a punching bag and work off the added pounds, but I don't have access to that kind of money as I don't have a job.
I also find that replacing meat with tofu helps. I'm not saying you should cut meat out completely, but instead of chicken in your Chicken Helper, use tofu. I also try to drink more teas and juices when I'm thirsty, as opposed to soda. Try soy milk instead of regular milk. It's more expensive but it's better for you. Chocolate Soy Milk as a treat is quite delicious. I, too, use fake sugar. Equal. I have a box of 2000 packets. Cost me $20, what a bargain.

Pretty much all of the aspartame alarmism was spawned by the chain letter in the above link, which was later quite thoroughly debunked. You can now safely chug the stuff knowing it's one of the most scientifically overkilled substances in the history of mankind.

Hells yeah! I've done the same thing and never felt better. The stuff really has a druglike impact on your system: racing high, crashing low, eat some more, go round again. It was difficult to give up at first, but now I just feel... even and clearheaded the whole day through. It's absolutely great.
Also, I find I eat a lot less food when sugar's not involved. Simple carbs = food that makes you crave more food. I've already lost about 12 pounds just by not eating anything high on the Glycemic Index.

That's the same thing I now get out of riding my bike 1 1/2 - 2 miles a day. Triple that on the weekends.
I'm down to 189 now, and all I want to lose is four more pounds.
But I love riding.

Haha, snap. Almost. 5"8 and just under 150 pounds here. But that's way up from when I started Uni back in 2000. I was the same height, but only weighed about maybe 105lb. Guess working at a desk all day for 4 years took it's toll!

I used to be, well, not fan but I was going in that direction. Anyway, believe me, it's not THAT hard to loose weight. I used to eat all sort of junk : Mc Do, chips, Kentucky, fat things, you know. Then I decided to eat good things. So I stich with the 4 groups, and fruits, yaourt, for collation. I've been doing so for two years now. Sure, I eat popcorn at movies, chips at home while watching a movie (VIVA by Humpty Dumpty, low in fat, awesome) and in 2 months, I got from 198 LBS to 160 LBS. Now I did cardio a lot too to lose the far. You can't be in extra shape just in one day. Don't feel bad for not running on a long distance, just try to push your limits everytimes. Rollerblades, Bicycle, Walk, Fast walk, Jogging, Run, everything is good. I wasn't very active before the last 4 or 5 years, but now I'm in a 42 KM bicycle race each year and I love it. Don't lose hope, trust me, it's not THAT hard.

I'm 6'2 and weigh about 310 lbs. I'm also diabetic and have high blood pressure and cholesterol, and I'm only 18. I could change my diet, but what my mom cooks usually isn't very heart-healthy. Hamburger Helper, white rice, fried chicken/pork chops/etc. Also, we usually go for the cheapest thing we can get, and most discount stores don't carry low-priced healthy foods. We usually don't go to another town without eating at a restaurant (Perkins, Shoneys, Ryans, etc.). We did, however, stop using sugar and started using something called Sweet Thing. It's basically a generic Sweet'N'Low that comes in a canister instead of little packets. Which means you can make stuff like tea and kool-aid with it.

First off, I think I forget to eat most of the time (when I'm at home workin on creating projects)... and I have a hell of a high metabolisom with a ton of energy. Then I'll work out whenever I can and I don't really like pop/sugars/fried foods in excess. I'd actually prefer fruits and vegetables, pasta and lean meats. I do LOVE dark beers though, and coffee (not sure... bad for you?).
So in other words, I'm very weird with my relationship with food. I get hungry on odd schedules and sometimes... forget to get hungry and eat :P--- ah, and when I'm hungry I really gorge.
Somebody I know went on the "South Beach Diet" and it worked. Guess people could try it out if they wanted.

Hmm...I'm perfectly happy with my height/weight right now. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm around 5'10" with a body weight of around 150(?). The best description I can give is when some chick said to me one day, "You're not too skinny, and you're not fat, you seem to be just right in the middle."
I eat pretty shitty, too. I have a high metabolism. I really, really try to watch what I eat, but sometimes it's hard. I know this is probably going to kick me in the ass someday. <img src=smilies/eek13.gif>

nothing. Cook for yourself. Veggies and fruit. Its not really hard. Reduce portion sizes and cut out the pop, chips and chocolate bars.
Frozen Veggies are inexpensive. I dont know if they are available in the states but a company named Ferma makes a great mix. The best i have had so far.

Probably, though there are often internal disagreements on things like this. For example, you'll likely find research groups from big name schools disagreeing on global warming.
It's a safe bet the study was done well, but that's no guarantee that you're getting the whole story.

There are natural non caloric sweeteners like stevia that pose no risk at all to very little risk, so really I dont see the point of even bothering with artificial sweeteners that taste like ass anyhow. This is like the deal with sassafras and its banning as a flavoring agent. Saffrol, the substance which was made from sassafras and used as a flavoring agent, is carcinogenic. Saffrol's primary use was in root beer. It is undeniably carcinogenic and was banned in commercial use, but the hare brained part of it is that in order for your body to accumulate enough saffrol to cause any problems, you would have to consume 24 gallons of root beer, EVERY DAY, for a good many years. Its kind of a well intentioned but not well thought out thing.
