I used to download here @ ZD gbs file as a zip archive with 3 files:
1 .gbs
1 .gb
1 .frm

And they worked wonderfully with my Kobarin Media Player.

I have downloaded some gbs recently and they only consist in one .GBS file and my chiptune player can not read them anymore.

Did the gbs format changed?

OK here's the deal on that. The .gbs file is the actual Game Boy Sound file. The .gb file was a special Game Boy ROM file which can be played in a Game Boy emulator and only features the music. The .frm file was a special text file which was used to automatically fill in the table on the old Zophar's Domain submission format, and is now obsolete.

The bottom line is that the .gbs files are of the exact same format as they used to be and should work with your media player.

OK here's the deal. My player can BROWSE gbs content only when zipped. I just find out about that.

BTW I downloaded the GBS for Batman and the CRC is different from my old gbs file. Was something improved, should I re-download all my GBS?

You'll have to wait for him to answer you. I'd answer if I could, he knows way more about the state of the music section than I do.

As far as I know, the specifications of the GBS file format have not changed. The ones that I posted on the site as of late have been optimized a little bit better than the previous, but as far as I know if your player could handle the older files, it should be able to handle the current ones.
