They seem to be all out of date or unsupported on windows 7.

DirectDraw fails on any FCE Ultra version.

Shame, I liked that emulator. I need to fix it.

I think it is dx11. Found that was the cause after I read up on why some fullscreen programs came up all strange colors (like old versions of dosbox). The only work around I found was to kill any other directdraw programs. Of course explorer uses it:regret:.

Edit: Yes the question: What is the current all the rage winNES Emu?

FCE Ultra was superceded by FCEUX quite some time ago. I'm surprised you haven't been using it instead. Works perfectly fine for the casual user like myself on a Windows 7 system.

Nestopia or Nintendulator.

I thought the generally accepted answer was that Nestopia was the "best" as far as playing goes and FCEUX was the "best" as far as hacking goes.

An unofficial build of Nestopia was released a few months ago that works in Windows 7. FCEUX was last updated less than two months ago, though there's nothing in the documentation that specifies if it works in Windows 7 or not.

I don't have Windows 7, so I can't offer any hands on experience. I'm waiting for Chrome OS to be released and see how they compare side-by-side before making my decisions regarding upgrading.

Yeah, I vote Nestopia.

Nestopia looks great(Yeah I know I have been under a rock for sometime)

The only thing that seems to be wrong with it is the vsync. The input seems to be delayed by just a hair when this is on. This has to be on. I can't stand the screen ripping.

Best thing to do is your monitor/video card supports it is to run the emu at 60hz to match the TV, no vsync required then normally. I would vote for nintendulator myself BTW.

In my opinion, Rocknes is much better than other emulators.

And you obviously don't know what you're talking about.

I last used Nesticle a couple of weeks ago. VRAM editor for the win.

Sup.

I'm having a hell of a time configuring FCEUX to satisfaction. There is clearly no sweet spot for the settings on this, at least on my Windows 7 system. All I want to do is play Metroid with a Lua script. Do any emulators other than FCEUX support Lua? I can't seem to find any information on this.

As far as I know, FCEUX is the only NES emulator to support LUA scripting.
