Like the subject says....I just put the deposit down on my first car.
I had been meaning to get a car of my own for some time now. I checked out a local used car dealership because they had a sweet deal on a Lincoln Continental, but when I arrived I checked out the car sitting next to it: a 2002 Chevrolet Prizm.
I had never heard of a Prizm before so I was skeptical. I test drove it and well, fell in love!
The specs: 2002 Chevy Prizm with air, ABS, CD, power steering, dual air bags, automatic (the only downside as I really wanted a standard), with only 7,000 miles on it. The cost? $5,995.
I'm gonna get it checked out by a mechanic and then it'll be mine! I know that this isn't the most exciting post in the world, but I'm pretty excited and I just needed to write it down somewhere.

Awesome! I wish my first car was as nice as that. You should take some pictures and show us what it looks like!

nothing to worry about---the prizm is a repackaged toyota corolla. you'll get the reliability, and the only cost will be certain amenities (often times power windows/locks, sun roofs, air, etc., but yours seems pretty stacked)

Now you gotta make it look cool. You know, 20 inch wheels, neon lights on every possible surface inside the car, big flashy stickers, a wing, one of those obnoxious fart cannon mufflers, and a huge sound system

Yeah, and don't forget to make sure all that is at least three times as much as you're paying for the car. Or else it won't be l33t.

I'll definitly do that when I actually own the car, which should be in a week or so.

It's funny - that's exactly what the car guy said (about it being a corolla). Now that someone else has confirmed that fact, I feel even more confident.
The car actually does have power locks and air and I actually prefer the regular windows to automatic ones. The only thing I might do is beef up the sound system.

Since its a clone of a corolla the car would probably outlast you :p I heard of corollas getting 300,000 on the odometer.

unfortunately, 2002 marked the last model year for the car. chevrolet decided to can it after another year of poor sales.
shame, too. shows how much a model name means. the corolla outsold prizm 4:1 in the final model year, which is nothing short of amazing, considering they're the same goddamn cars, and the prizm is cheaper.
in the automotive world, name means a ton. for instance, the ford escort is widely considered a flaming piece of shit, but if it was marketed as what it truly is (a mazda), it would look a lot better.
as an experiment, i'd love to take a honda accord, change the nameplates to plymouth, and watch as the resale value drops to the bottom of the ocean :)
