What the HELL is wrong with me?

THREE weeks ago I had flu-like symptoms. It happens. The next day I'm fine, other than a chest cold.

I STILL have a "chest cold" and now my sinuses have been completely blocked for the past week.

A week and a half ago I go to the doctor's...$55 to weigh me, take my blood pressure, and listen to my heart/lungs. Bronchitis. Take these free antibiotics and get this codeine syrup for $20/bottle.

2 bottles later, nothing.

Earlier this week I go back to the doctor's....$55 to weigh me, take my blood pressure, and listen to my heart/lungs. Bronchitis...but now it's viral. They can't do anything. I get a prescription for MORE drugs (totalling well over $50) which don't do a damn thing.

I can't do my job (in radio we do a thing called SPEAKING which requires BREATHING), I can't have fun (dancing requires a thing called BREATHING) or sleep (that also requires a thing called BREATHING). I take VERY tiny, short gasps of air otherwise it either just doesn't go in or I end up in a coughing fit that lasts for 5 minutes and I get a horrid headache.

What the hell is wrong with me? The doctor telling me "sleep and eat well" is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Fix this shit because I can't live like this. End of the week is a MONTH of this. FOUR WEEKS. THIRTY DAMN DAYS of not being able to breathe, speak, walk, sleep, laugh, or ANYTHING. Even sitting there doing NOTHING causes breathing problems.

I'M SO ANGRY. FIX THIS SHIT. WHAT THE HELL SICKNESS DO I HAVE AND HOW DO I GET RID OF IT? <img src=smilies/angryfire.gif>

If you've got a real tight throat that feels like someone punched you there, trouble breathing, and sinuses that produce your body weight in mucus daily and fill instantly no matter how many times you blow your nose then welcome to the club.
I got it about 5 days ago but won't see a doctor since it's just a bad cold and just pop a double dose of normal Advil 3 times a day and plenty of hot chocolate and coffee with a lot of sugar.
As for the flu like syptoms it sounds like you just may have had bronchitus and had the bad luck of getting this cold on top of it. I'ld just take all the antibiotic the doctor gave you and then just wait for the cold to work it's way out of you which I imagine will be within the week since I'm no model in imunity and my cold seems to be around 1/2 over by my symptoms that are just starting to lessen after around 5 days.
Either way I'm moving to my new place within the next 2 - 4 days cold or not since I refuse to let a virus rule my scheduel and ruin what I've worked for so hard.

If it really is viral brochitis, then nothing anyone says here will make a damn bit of difference. In reasonably healthy adults like yourself, the only thing to do is to let your immune system find a way to cure it. Which it will eventually.

Getting mad and stuff only puts greater strain on your body which lowers your immune response, makes it worse and makes it lasts longer which makes you get even more mad which keeps your immune response lowered... see a patten here?

Just try your best to relax, eat and drink as needed (I know it's possible for you to eat and drink, you haven't gone three weeks without doing either) and don't post on forums about how bad it is since that takes effort and strains you more which is not a Good Thingâ„¢.

i had that once...it went away after about a month, fucking sucked though. if it's been going on thirty days though, i'd be optimistic.

...so I flipped out last night. Oops.

I'm on 20mg of prednisone twice per day, my usual phenylephrine-promethazine-codeine syrup for cough and congrestion, and I have a combivent inhaler (ipratropium bromide and albuterol sulfate). $83. I used my last refill (3rd) of the prometh-codeine, no refills on the prednisone, and 1 refill on the inhaler...but with 200 puffs I should be fine with 1.

He said when I use the inhaler, I breath deeply while pushing it down....hold it in for as long as I can...and then I'll "cough like hell."

Oh yes. This cold isn't very fun, and unfortunately, I get it the most frequently out of all possibly illnesses out there.

I found that a hot shower + coughing out the shit in your lungs (which I'm assuming you have) as hard as you can is the only way to get over it. I've also found that pepsi (or coke) in ice is really good when I have this cold, I dunno why.

Other than that, there isn't shit you can do other than wait it out.

Um.. um um... dammit.. anyway.. when I had walking pneumonia a while back, the doctor gave me a fuckload of this expensive drug 'sample packs'. I took like, 3 or 4 days worth, and I was as good as new. It was a large blue horse pill. I keep thing 'Z' for some reason, Zyreth or something like that. Anyway, it cleared me up quick. Ask the doctor for some of those, I'll look around the house to see if I can find the *ACTUAL* fucking name for you.

If you have a cold with coughing and shit and you want to take something to cover the symptoms including coughing, congestion, ect then robatusin is probably the best thing out there and some pharmacies have something called tusen which is the generic and it works just as well for half the price which is about $8 a bottle. Get the day and night formula and I garantee the night formula will knock your ass out good so you can get the sleep you need.
BTW brandy will make you feel better also and even though it doesn't kill your symptoms it desensitizes you a bit to them and makes you not care about them quite a bit with that nice buzz. <img src=smilies/magbiggrin.gif>

Sounds like he prescribed an asthma medication. Bronchitis (in some forms) is similar to asthma in that it can cause minor constriction of the bronchial tubes which will make breathing difficult. If this is occurring in your case, this should definitely help, and even if it's not, it should dilate the tubes for better airflow into your lungs. Its kind of a cool sensation.

Reminds me of this doctor visit I had a few months ago...a bill of over 500 dollars and they never found anything wrong. I recovered on my own eventually.

Hmm...I know this probably won't help, but if I'm having trouble speaking I generally drink tea with honey or something like that in it.
