being someone that deals with generalized anxiety on a regular basis, i'm wondering who else here might be suffering from it too, and if so, what they do about it. i've been reading up on the subject, trying to figure out a drug-free way of coping with this. i find that it ruins a lot of things that could be fun, and i end up thinking about things more than doing anything about it.
talking about this is a big step for me, but it's not enough. i desperately want to get over anxiety. any ideas?

I used to have some really stressed out times I have figured were anciety and I found 2 things really helped. Face what you can since it's just fear of the unknown a lot of times and just fear can't hurt you and just don't think about what you have NO control over and take action if possible. Anxiety is just you worrying about stuff, being a worrywort as they used to call it or highstrung. So just kickback and enjoy life since in my opinion it's the only life we have. I see people worrying about everything today and they're never really happy so DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY.

I reccomend seeing a psychologist about it, even if just for one session. This kind of thing is really common and they can give you good ways of coping with it that don't involve drugs. Anxiety disorder has the potential to be very serious and I wouldn't, if I were you, go just based on advice from a message board.
Our society has a kind of stigma associated with seeing psychologists, so you're probably trying to avoid that option. Try to put things in perspective, though. A large fraction (the number escapes me at the moment) of the American public sees a psychologist at some point in their lives. Feelings of depression, anxiety, fear, etc. are almost as common as colds and flus. I don't see anymore reason to be ashamed of seeking mental health than there is physical. You don't tell someone to just "get over" a broken leg, do you? Fuck no.
It's probably not a big deal, but if you're going to ask someone, ask an expert. I think you'll find it's a painless process.

Yeah, I got a job. Money's a wonderful stress relief.
Besides that, anti-depressants are prescribed for generalized anxiety disorders. Don't kid yourself. If you're having panic attacks, there's not much to be done besides taking medication. And even that doesn't cure it. You learn to deal with it in your own way. For me it's taking a step back, taking a few deep breaths, and giving myself a few minutes to catch up and think.

I have the "Obssessive compulsive" syndrome so I know what's anxiety.
1- Sleep well. Better for your brain and for the reason.
2- Eat well. More in health, more in shape, feeling better.
3- Do sports or anything that make your muscles working. Great stress reliever.
4- Occupations. Try to think to something else by DOING something else. Anything. Clean the room, do music, homework, web desing, anything.
5- What's happening tomorrow is for tommorow. I have an exam tomorrow, so I'll be stressed about it tomorrow.
6- Some may laugh, but medications HELPS but won't do the job for you.
7- Psychologists are good. They can make you feel great by telling where your anxiety came from and all.
8- Talk but not too much. It's nice to talk when you need too, but not too much so you can still continue to take care of your worries by yourself.
Well, I hope it helped !

That's simply not true. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_behaviour_therapyCognitive behavioral therapy has proven effective in combating every major anxiety disorder including panic attacks. Medication can certainly be helpful, but it is by no means an exclusive treatment.
