View Full Version : Kilt

So, as I type this, I'm sitting at my desk wearing full Highland regalia. I've got the senior honours law ball tomorrow, so rented the gear over the weekend - that's why I'm trying it out just now.

That's the thing: we don't wear this stuff often at all - you won't see many people wandering around the supermarket in their kilt and Prince Charlie jacket (except the mad old guy in the town I used to live in, but that's another story). Barely any of us even own one, hence the trip to the rental place. This, in fact, is my first time in this outfit in my life, and I'm 21!

The only thing that's letting me wear this in public is the full knowledge that all my mates will be looking equally dumb tomorrow. I'm really going to have to get drunk really quickly if I'm to be able to enjoy this, and as a true Scotsman, that'll be a particularly risky enterprise.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that with you. I'll let you know how it goes. As you were.

Haha, of course - it's the measure of a true Scotsman. That's what I was talking about when I said how dangerous it is to get too drunk. Climbing trees or passing out wouldn't be too clever.

Nice site. So you're a MacIntyre, or are you just descended from them?

Here's mine:

Although tomorrow I'm going for Hunting Stewart, since that's the one my dear departed granddad wore:

Yeah, you're right - it was pretty cheesy. I should consider a career in crappy romance novels. I think I've might have found my calling!

So, it turned out pretty good after all. G&T makes for a pretty wicked hangover, but I'm getting there now. To my knowledge, I also managed to make it through the whole night unexposed, which with hindsight was more luck than anything, actually. The ball itself went on into the wee hours, after which we wandered off to whatever parties in the hotel had enough drink yet. My own memories of it are pretty fragmented, but between us all this morning we pretty much managed to piece it all back together. There were a good few of us with digital or video cameras, so at least there's plenty of blackmail material for the coming years.

Speaking of which, here for the first time is Scott putting his face up on the internet for you guys. I used to feel a bit touchy about that but, hey, I have to mark my 500th post somehow! (BTW: w00t!) That's me on the right of both photos. In my defence, it's worth noting that plenty of alcohol had been consumed by the time these two were taken. Please be gentle. Also, for the record, the other guy in the bottom one is my good mate Jim. As you can see, he had a pretty good night too.

You'd have to go back about 3 generations, but yeah, there's some Stewart blood in me. Having said that, if you're related to any Scotsmen, you're probably related to near enough all of us, not to mention a few sheep up in Aberdeen.

Haha, I'm going to take 'crazy' in the 'badass' sense, in which case thank you. I think.

Whenever I call someone crazy or weird, I consider it a compliment......
