So I was never really one to make posts in the Diary forum. Quite frankly, nothing interesting happens in my life. It's really just work, work and more work. Why? Because I want to qualify and practice law. It's all I've wanted for as long as I can remember. It's not an easy life I've picked. Law school is no walk in the park, and neither is getting into law school. So what people call the best years of your life were spent for me in the library or at my desk here. I can't complain: I've always thought myself to be working towards something that would be worth it in the end. Delayed gratification.
It's just now that you apply for traineeships for after you graduate from your postgrad course, beginning in August 2005. And I've been to a load of interviews all over the country. Knockbacks from all of them. Yesterdays one was particularly depressing - this firm who had around 350 applications for 8 positions. They invited me to a drinks reception in their Edinburgh office on Wednesday (where they're primarily based, since it's one of the country's premier firms), so I had to leave my flat at around 2pm to get the bus down, and didn't even get back till after 11pm, then straight to bed to get up before 7am to get the bus back down again for the interview itself. Over 8 hours travel in total for a 20 min interview, and it didn't even go that well anyway. Just hideously depressing.
But sometimes it's nice to be wrong. They phoned me about an hour ago to offer me the position. Turns out I really am going to be a lawyer after all, in one of the best firms in the country. I'm in shock. I've waited most of my life for that call. I never for a second thought that it would actually come, though.
