Jeff Ludwig (http://jeffludwig.com/finalfantasy/) has written in to tell us he has released an update to his "Final Fantasy - Mod of Balance" hack, the hack that aims to rebalance the Final Fantasy 1 portion of the GBA remake "Dawn of Souls" in order to make it more difficult. Here's what is new/fixed/added in this version:

Weapons tweaked a bit; rare weapons are generally better, rewarding your forays into the bonus dungeons.
Removed the 2000000 experience point cap, allowing for the full development of your characters.
Removed the 999 cap for HP and MP! The cap is now 9999, if you can ever get that many Silver and Golden Apples...
Reset the cap for Strength, Agility, Intellect, Stamina, and Luck to 255. Previous maximum was 99.
Removed the 255 cap for a character's base Hit Rate. Extraordinarily high level Ninjas will appreciate this.
Many White Magic spells have been reordered, which may lead to a couple new surprises.
Many high level Black Magic spells are more powerful, especially when the castor's Intellect rises.
Elven Balm now behaves as expected in battle.
The targeting screens for the Poisona and Warp spells, as well as the items Antidote, Mind Balm and Elven Balm now report their description properly.
Blood Tigers reward party with more experience.

You can get it at his website (http://jeffludwig.com/finalfantasy/) or on our very own page (http://www.zophar.net/hacks/gba/final-fantasy-1-dawn-of-souls/Final-Fantasy-Mod-of-Balance-619.html) for the hack.

9th Sage,

Someone has written in to tell me that the patch that the v1.000 patch that I had for download at jeffludwig.com didn't work. I have fixed the patch... can I send that to you without needing to repost? I hate to keep bugging you about this... thanx

It's no problem. Is the patch updated on the site, if so I've reuploaded it with the new fixed patch. Otherwise, let me know and I'll PM you my e-mail.

I do have an updated patch ready to send, though the one that was on my site since Thursday works.

However, the patch I just created is a newer patch (and tested it and it works) :) It includes a very slight change to the balance of the Dia/Diara spells, but that change is really minor. I'm playing through with this group to get a feel for the overall magic balance: White Mage, Black Mage, two Red Mages. I get the feeling that I will be making only very minor tweaks on it from here on out, especially to gameplay. Some of the graphical anomalies (like the Comet spell one) which don't affect gameplay but annoy me may get worked out if they bug enough people (including myself). Those are the kind of things that take a few hours to detect which branch or comparison or whatever needs to have a bit twiddled. Fun fun :) We'll see, maybe I'll get ambitious.

Thanks for your help, and you can PM me your email, and I'll get the updated patch to you (or you could just download it from my site, as well, as it is updated.) Thanks again.
