death is the road to awe

So, I'm working on a PSX game, and I'm wondering, why do so few people hack PSX games?
Also, could someone point me towards user friendly PSX ASM info?
Thanks.

So few people hack PSX and other CD based systems because the process is far more complicated than basic ROM hacks. For that matter, not many people hack N64 either, despite it being cartridge based, because the newer a system is, the more complicated it is to hack. As such, the amount of knowledge, documentation and utilities available for newer systems is tiny in comparison to older systems, which discourages new hackers from tackling recent games.

Someone with no knowledge of hacking could pick up the better tutorials geared towards NES, SNES & Gameboy and complete a hack in a reasonable amount of time. The same person would be much less likely to do so with a PSX game due to the lack of published information. That's not to say it couldn't be done, just that it's far less likely.

As for docs, have you tried First PS ASM Doc for Hacking (http://romhacking.net/docs/130/) by Skeud? I haven't read it (I have very little interest in either PSX or Assembly) so I can't comment on the quality, but it appears to be the only such doc currently available.
