View Full Version : i am disappointed in myself

we were supposed to run/walk the mile today for phys ed, and i walked as i planned. however, i was planning on possibly beating my personal record, 9:36, but instead i didn't even make it in ten! i got done at exactly 11 minutes. that is SLOW! i am so disappointed with myself for that. who cares that most people can't even walk a mile in 12 minutes anymore these days, it matters what i can do, and that i failed. :(

That is bad, I could beat that and I'm 38 and have just quit smoking but I've run faster miles than that with a cigarette in my mouth and that was just a couple years ago, time to get off your ass and start to do some jogging. :)

we had to do it in 12, so i was like, why not?
i've timed myself before, this is the only time i'll need to do it for phys ed. but i have walked some mighty fast miles before. if i could have had time to warm up first i could have prolly done it in less than 9, going at my top speed, but they won't give you time beforehand to warm up

4:58. I was happy. Sad thing is - I still finished fourth on my team. We had amazing distance people my senior year of track. That's why I ended up doing all the cool stuff - Like Pole Vault. Best damn event ever! Too bad my running talent was wasted :P Ah well, twas fun. I wouldn't change it for anything. That season was my fondest memory from high school.

i could beat all of ya at a speedwalking race, so bah! and this thread is about SPEEDWALKING, not RUNNING!
one of these days i'll beat my own speedwalking record, i don't know if it is the fastest period, but it is my record. i don't remember if i posted my actual record or not, but my record is 9:36, SPEEDWALKING. for running i don't know, i'm not a distance runner :P

Yeah, that's high school. It was a good time too. Just didn't look as such since our distance team was so goddamn fast. Had one kid who ran it under 4:20 (competed at Jr nationals a few years before), and two right around 4:35. There were also two other guys that consistently finished around 5:10. Needless to say, we did very well in every distance event. In fact, I only ran the mile once in a meet. That was the 4:58. Every other time I stuck to relays, 800m, 400m, and pole vault mostly. Through the course of the year though, I did every track event besides the 200 & 100m's, and the 110 hurdles. I also did high jump, and pole vault in the field. It kept things interesting. Man I loved that season....

i don't know what my time is for running the mile... i WALKED IT in 11 minutes. i didn't jog/run ONCE, i walked the entire time. i have done it before. i am the darned near fastest walker there ever was, and i like it that way :P but i am slow when it comes to running. i am a sprinter and a power walker, not a distance runner.
man, i think i'm beginning to enjoy reminding you guys of the TRUE topic of this thread :P

Honestly, I think few people ever time themselves walking. Why? Simply because walking is what you do when you want to get from point A to point B and you're not in any kind of hurry. If I need to get from A to B quickly, I'll run . . . In fact, if I need to get there really quickly, I'll drive (but that's besides the point, isn't it).
Anyway, here are my mile times:
walking . . . never bothered to time myself
running record . . . 6:00 (give or take 10 seconds)
currently running . . . 8:10 (got old and out of shape)
crab walking . . . 15:07 (raced my friend:-)

Oh my God.... WHO CARES what the "intended topic of the thread" is? It's healthy discussion, and people are responding. It happens. When DOES a thread actually stay on-topic around here? At least running is related to walking :)

Feet and hands are on the ground, but your rear-end is facing down (so you're practically moving around in a sitting position).

Sure as hell hope it lasted more than 15 minutes :-O

wouldn't that just be SO purty :P
and to ladenmind: it isn't necessarily running. believe me, i'm no distance runner, but i can walk faster than you'd think to be possible to walk. that is what the times are of btw, walking :)
time yourself power walking sometime, you just might be surprised at what you can do, and just how sweaty you WILL still get, if done right. always be sure to pack a liter bottle of ice cold water if you are going to be doing any powerful mobility actions (power walking and upwards) in temperatures above say 65 degrees w/ 25% humidity, cause dehydration will cause you to slow down more than just about anything else... the only thing i've had worse is a sprain, and those are A LOT of fun :P
