View Full Version : Dead cat.

Well. This afternoon the cat that's been part of my life since 1992 is going to have to be euthanized. In the past year he's gone blind, is suffering from renal failure, and has some sort of cat alzheimer's that causes him to use whatever feels something like cat litter as cat litter (like a carpet).
It isn't so much the fact that when I get home from classes today, he'll be gone. I know that death is a necessary part of life, and that since we got him from the pound he had 10 more good years than he would have otherwise. It's simply the fact that I feel so goddamn helpless. I want to be able to do SOMETHING to just magically make my cat better, but that just isn't going to happen. I almost broke into tears in the middle of class today... I'm a fucking wreck right now.
By the way, since I know someone's going to post the "Free Cat" pic at some point in this thread, let me just say that since my cat wasn't hit by a car, I still find the pic fucking hilarious. Thank you.

Awww, shit. Obviously not much I can say here that would make anything better, but for what it's worth, you have my sympathies. All the best.

Losing a pet can be very hard, I know. I was extremely upset when my first bird died. Almost 10 years later, I still keep on the wall of my room a picture of him that I drew back then, and some of the feathers he periodically shed are tacked to the side. I felt that I owed it to the little guy to remember him. That's the all we can do, really, once they're gone.

i know i caught a lot of shit for posting that....but i feel your pain.
my cat is 13 years old...having gotten him when i was 9 in 1990. he's at my parent's house...and i miss him. that little furball is my best friend.
he used to be massively fat...like 20+ pounds. in the last few months he's dropped it all...you can see his bones now (like a normal cat). his feet sometimes make clicking sounds when he walks. he has trouble jumping on the dining room table and stuff.
he's apparently in good health (just old). but i'm going to be a fucking disaster area when he either dies or needs to be put down. that cat's been a part of my entire life for as far back as i can remember.

Freddy, my cat, is eleven years old now. He's still in pretty good health except for a slightly damaged leg (due to an incident with a moving car when he was younger) that also causes him to chase and hiss at his ass.
He's also a mean and deceptive bastard (no, really, we have no idea who his father was) who will roll over and invite you to stroke his belly... right before he grabs your arm to scratch and bite it. He frequently draws blood.

Hey, I think everyone knows where I stand on this. I've 9 cats and they mean the world to me. When Spaz died (he'd survived an attack by four dogs) it nearly killed me. He was my best friend.

Queue in my cat, Sweety. She likes belly rubs, and likes her back stroked, but at any random time, she get's really pissed off or something and just goes nuts with whatever body part is closest to her. My arm has a nice long scar from her. But she's still my kitty--7 years old and still going strong. Shes gone through her own shit, though. Where I used to live, people would shoot at her with pellet guns. They sadly hit a few times, at which time I removed the pellets and took her to the vet (ironically just down my street).

People who shoot pellet guns at cats suck. There is no reason for it. Not one fucking legitimate reason.
Those people suck.

No, people who shoot pellet guns at animals PERIOD suck. My dog luckily barked at who it was and they haven't came back. I've moved since then, and my cat is fine. But it wasn't fun trying to get that pellet out--and I don't think my cat liked it that much either.

People who shoot pellet guns at anything suck. Pellet guns are horrible. At least use darts or something. But cats own, so don't shoot them with anything. This post made me remember my crazy old neighbor who had a pet woodchuck. Too bad the guy died. His woodchuck was cool. I hope it found a good home.

I had to put my cat to sleep a few months ago. We had her since I was 3. She was like...17-18 years old. Mom couldn't stand to be there, so I had to take her to the vet myself and I held her while she breathed her last breath after euthanasia. It was pretty sad :(

I had to say goodbye to my cat Cloud, when I moved. It was sad. I had him since he was an infant and he had such a unique personality. /wwwthreads/images/icons/frown.gif

every now and then i think about how much more time i'll have with my cat. he's been through a lot, two cyst operations... one of which almost killed him. i've had my cat, Muffin , since i was in the third grade. i'm a junior in college now. its not that my cat is particularly social, nor do i expect him to be, but i cannot fathom life without him. he's a good shyte.
