here's the thing... my mom and i have never really gotten along as far as i can remember, and she tells me that i was always the kid she had to deal with most. to this day she still puts me on guilt trips by crying and saying she's the world's worst mother. i really hate these trips too. they're too long and i get no bathroom breaks. but honestly, my mom may not be the world's worst mother, but she's the worst one i know. i've tried to get along with her damnit, but she just doesn't seem to want to have me around anymore and it sucks. as much as i hate her, she's still my mom. eghhh... i just wish she would try to act like a real mother when it comes to dealing with me...

First off,
Who in the right mind would have kids..
Why would you have a kid..
If you married the person out of true love.. Why would you want to bring in a kid and not have time for the other..
Okay..
So you want a kid why?
To subject them to this downfailing world that's getting worse and worse and uglier and you want them to face the starvation and search for clean water that's going to be happening in the near future..
No
You want someone to boss around
you want someone to take care of you when you're older
Kids don't like their parents because there's no logical answer as to why people have children..
at least not a positive answer that I can think of..
Therefore the relationship's not going to be good if they wanted to have you because either
a.) they wanted someone to use
or b.) they felt they had to.. they were OBLIGATED to birth you..
or C.) you were a screwup..

And here comes the flame posts..

There's actually a very simple answer to this question. Children are immortality --- they give us peace of mind, as, after having them, we know a part of ourselves will survive and live on.

Wow you're more cynical than I am. Having a kid is up to the couple. Simple as that. I prefer to have my kid chargrilled and on a bun, but I'm one of the weird ones.

So it's selfish?
Ahh hell listen, I don't know about this.. I just read her post and got to thinking over a few things that I've heard and felt in the past and it did come across as this bit of cynical idea.. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion in having kids, whether I think it's right or not, I've just been confused about a lot of things as of late, and I guess I should have kept my thoughts to myself instead of posting my thought process aloud..
My apologies if I offended anyone in my post..

I mean she is the LAZIEST person I know. She very dependant on other people. She gets her money from her "husband" and rxqueens' dad. Does she work to support the family? Fuck no. Hell she doesn't even do shit around the house. All she does is sit on her fat ass playing FF4j on the computer. On TOP of that she spends money that could be going to IMPORTANT thinmgs and uses it for booze and when she's drunk she yells at rxqueen even MORE! Whoah there, little guy! Let's not get ahead of ourselves yet. Try to adopt more of a laissez-faire attitude to life. It'll suck far less in the long run. And whatever the facts of the situation may be, I'm not sure if it's ever permissable to say stuff like that about someone else's mother. That prerogative remains with the child alone.

But otherwise, congratulations for considering the best interests of the human race in making your big 'life decions'. The road to hell's paved that way, but at least you're trying.

<img src=smilies/thumb.gif>

EDIT: note to self, two Rs in prerogative.

Neither did I. I was talking about planning too far in advance. You never know how life's going to pan out - but just because you had plans to the contrary doesn't make that worse. If you have all your hopes/dreams invested in a particular outcome, though, it'll be far more difficult to see that.

>Who in the right mind would have kids..
>Why would you have a kid..

Most people have kids because they want someone to carry on a little bit of themselves. If nobody had kids, there wouldn't be anyone left in the world. I personally don't ever want to have kids (don't hate me for saying this, but I just don't like babies). I've been told that is because my 'maternal instinct' hasn't crept in yet. Since I like to keep an open mind, I don't rule anything out.

But if people want to have kids and they have the means to raise them, then I see no reason why they shouldn't.

Of course, if you're producing babies by the dozen and you don't want them or don't have the means to raise them then PLEASE, do not have them. Something drastic needs to be done about the population in, um, certain areas of the world.

>You want someone to boss around

I'm pretty sure parents don't have kids for this reason. It would be a tiny benefit compared with the headache of actually raising a child until it is old enough to take care of itself.

>If you married the person out of true love.. Why would you want >to bring in a kid and not have time for the other..

I agree with you.
Just to play devil's advocate, I believe the other point of view is that the kid is the 'synthesis' of your love, a combination of a little bit of both of you, and a replacement symbol for your love after you are gone.
And so in a way the view that you (and I) have is more simple-minded and momentary - it doesn't include an encompassing world-view.

yeah brad, you really didn't need to say all that about my mom. if i wanted everyone to know exactly how she is, i would've posted it myself.

That would be the perfect caption to this picture (http://www.menziesera.com/media/images/batman.jpg) from the original TV series, particularly if you rotate the image 90&deg; counter-clockwise.
